Hi all,

I am only getting about 100km out of my tank before it goes on reserve. I also have the bike restricted to 33bhp(in the throttle) so surely i should be getting much more km than that!

I have also been told that my zxr400 h1 has a 16l tank...or 14l - and when the main runs out and i switch onto reserve i can only fill the main tank up with £7 worth of fuel, is the reserve the same size as the main?

I have found this a great hassle as i cant even turn my tank when i am riding as i find it too difficult to get to! Going onto reserve this early after a fill up is really annoying!

Any advice would be much appreciated!

100km?? you should get about 110 miles = 177km £7 sounds about right to fill the bike, obviously depends on how much you are paying per litre.someone syphoning your fuel off? i would have thought being restricted you would give it more welly which would use more fuel but 100km is taking the piss.

£7 of fuel is just under 8 litres at 90p/litre. 100km is 62 miles

Based on those figures, you're getting about 37mpg - which isn't entirely unrealistic depending on how you ride it! It does sound a little on the low side.

Sounds like you have different fuel tap in there or something. Can someone else confirm this, but from what I remember I used to get about 12 litres into my tank when I'd just flicked over to reserve.

I know nothing of H tanks but given that your only getting 60 miles something is wrong.............

Could it be that the filter inside the tank on the tap is partially blocked ?
Or has the tank capacity been reduced by damage and been repaired with filler ?

Have you a fuel lek somewhere ?

thats about right mate, i get about 100ish miles to a tank, so 60 miles or whatever it works out at to get on reserve must be about right

A fuel leak wouldnt explain why he is only getting 8 litres of fuel in. Either tank capacity is reduced or, there is an issue with the fuel tap - cant thikn of any other reason why you would need to change to reserve after only using 8 litres of fuel and not the 12 or so that my H2 used!!

take a torch and have a look inside the tank. if it's right at reserve you will be able to tell. in any case i've got 110miles so far, haven't had to go to reserve yet. i should be able to do 150 miles before reserve the way i'm riding...

my 8 litre tank on the CRM250 does 90km before reserve, and that's annoying enough. Not enough to get me to a green lane from where I live.

I used to get about 120 miles for £10 in my ZXR400 before hitting reserve. 95 if I was thrashing it everywhere.
(back when fuel was 80p a litre, oh happy days...)

but 70 miles for £7 is about right, but do you still have lots of fuel in the tank when you refill?

It's all fun, this guesswork - why did they ever put fuel gauges on bikes, eh?
