Letter from police.

Hi guys.
Ive woken up this morning to find a letter from the police stating that Im required to give information as to the identity of a person riding my bike.
Its really alarmed me, as it also says im liable for prosecution, fines & endorsements if i dont co-operate.
I obviously want to co-operate as i have no idea what theyve sent me this letter for.
My bike is currently SORN, locked away in my mates garage that i dont have access to, and i have both bike keys.
Im really shaken up from receiving this letter as i've been banned from driving before, and dont fancy getting banned again.
Has anyone ever has this before?
What can i do about it?
Feedback would be much appreciated <3
thanks

the joys of posting your number plate on the internet mate, could be someones got your plate made up and stuck it on their own bike so they don't get caught.

Thing is, ive been to jail in the past for driving offences, driving cars with no license etc, Im really ashamed of what i did in the past, n severely learnt my lesson from it. So i feel like im in a dead end situation here, if i go to the police n plead innonence, i feel they wont believe me. :/

i doubt they will mate, you are an easy target for them! been harrassed by the police myself in the past and once they get on to you they don't let go.

Hmm that does seem quite odd.
Did they ask for details of the rider on specific dates at specific times? If not, then you reply stating "I am the current registered owner and keeper of this bike, and to the best of my knowledge am the only person who has ridden the bike". You need to ask them for specific dates and times if they require further information, and if I were you I would state what you said - that the bike has been on a SORN notice since xxxx, and has been in secure storage which you currently don't have direct acces to since xxxx. Also say that you have both sets of keys in your safe possession, and don't believe this would have made it possible for anyone to have had access to the bike for this time period.
Best to cover your butt as much as you can, just in case.
It would be my guess that someone has put in a complaint about that bike. I had a Cunstubble visit me one day because someone had complained that I was overtaking them in the mornings and speeding.
It does sound likely that if you haven't been using it, someone could have been using cloned plates.

Like he said get specific times and dates and u might realise u have an alibi, probably is a cloned plate, did they give u a description of the bike?

as it states on the letter, i need to provide information of "the rider of the vehicle, a kawasaki ZR 400 motorcycle, registered number **** *** being used at 19:50hours, saturday 21st February 2009 at the **** street and ***** street."
Im puzzled to F*ck, but feel like im guna get done for this! :/

I spose, are they just sending this letter to see if i own up to it or something?...coz surely if i was out on my bike, not being legal on it, they wud have pulled me there and then really?

exactly, if they start accusing you of it just say how can you prove it was me and not cloned plates?
have you got an aliby to prove it was not you riding the bike? ie. were you at work at the time, with someone etc

If it wasn’t you then tell them that, also say that you will 100% cooperate with the investigation. Ask them to send you a photo of the offence to see if you can recognize the rider and if it is in fact your bike and not another bike with your reg plate on it.
Remember the police now don’t have to prove who what riding/driving if you’re not able to prove its not you and point them in the right direction the registered keeper will receive all the punishment, so much for innocent until proven guilty ay?
The worst possible thing you can do at the moment is be rude or unhelpful so keep that in mind with any correspondence you send.
