Done for speeding. Please Help?

Just on my way home from work ten minutes ago. I decided to go via the sea front as it had stopped raining. Drove very slowly for most, then blipped the throttle a bit(not much) and a copper jumps out in front of me. I thought I was gonna get a slap on the wrist, how ever....
The speed gun said 62mph. It was in a 30 limit. I apologized and said I didn't realise I was going that fast.
Anyway, it's straight to court for me.
Any advice as to how I can make it easier for me?

The speedo is in kph, would this help if I said I was confused?
Also the copper made a point of saying it was in the wet(even though the roads were dry). Will this go against me?

Am I gonna lose my licence?

acab.
Actually they were very polite and helpful, but....

toad luck mate. did they show the equipment used to catch you?

Half the time you just have to take it on the chin. My own experience of doing 70 in a 30 got me banned for 6 months and 200 quid fine. If you cant attend on the date of the summons you can write letter of 'mitigating circumstances' and they deal with on the date in your abscence. Otherwise you can turn up on the date and explain in person.

Just see what comes through, i think saying it was in km wouldnt wash as theres a big difference between 30 and 60 mph. And 60mh is 100kmh so you defo know your in the wrong.

I suspect that twice over the limit is an automatic ban tho. you might get lucky and get 6 points and a big fine.

more than 30 over the limit is meant to be a ban.. unless you have VERY mitigating circumstances .. i got away with 143mph on the M40 a number of years ago, but only because i was a self employed courier, and even the copper who nicked me admitted i wasnt actually driving dangerously and was in control, and the road was completely clear..

mention the kph thing and they have (tenuous) grounds for "driving without due care" cos you're admitting you dont know how to ride your bike safely and read the clocks. Same as saying you didnt know how fast you were going.

wouldnt worry about wet roads, if they mention that just point out you managed to stop safely when the copper flagged you ..

my advice is to go to court, dress smartly, be uber polite, dont take the piss or come out with wanky excuses, they've heard it all before.

head over to the pb forum and ask in the legal section, porkscratchin is their resident bike cop and will let you know the score.. the advice i got from there saved me 6 points last year.

Sadly it also says from 2004 each case will be looked at individually depending on time of day, weather etc, and the copper kept pointing out it was wet, even though it wasn't. Such a pessemist aint I?

Thanks for the help fellas, I really hope I don't lose my licence.

Thing is we can sit here till the day he goes to court and tell him this that and the other. Truth is no one will be able to tell what hes going to get. Each local council has thier own view on speeding motorists and whether they should throw the book at someone or not. I got told i was more than likely going to get a years ban by alot of people but ended up with just 6 months, and my fine was determined by how much i earned.

I suspect i didnt get a full years ban becuase it was 4 in the morning.

i would say when u r apologising to the magistrate, highlight the fact that your bike is your only transport and losing your license will have a detrimental impact on your job

they dont want more ppl sponging off the state

i remember years ago when i had my rvf, i was in a hurry, overtaking on solid white lines, untaking ppl, even rode in between two harley riders! then pulled a wheelie off lights,

unfortunately a copper had been following me for the duration!!! shocking

i got 4 points and a £30 fine for riding without due care and attention!

could have been worse :smt016
