Hello, im new here. I have a zxr 400 l5, got it last week.
I have fittes a switch for the fan as i was stuck in traffic and the bike got very hot and the fan didnt come on. I test the fan switch and it has broke so i wired up a normal on off switch. Anyway i was going to fill up my coolant but cant find the fill up tank? I filled it up using the radiator but i think i filled it up to much as when i started the bike some coolant came out of a pipe connected to the top of the radiator just under the cap. I was just wondering should there be a reservoir tank there?
Cheers

There is a small outlet pipe that is just below the radiator cap..................if you attach a bit of hose to that and lead it to the bottom of a small bottle cable tied to the rad. make sure the hose reaches to the bottom of the bottle but cut an angle across the hose end so that it does not simple be blockd off by the bottom of the bottle. Also make sure the bottle can vent and breath air in and out. You should manage just fine without the large resivior tank.......................I run my race bikes like that.
However if you are stuck in slow traffic or the bike gets hot you may find the bottle over flows as coolant expands and gets hot........................race bikes rarely never face such circumstances.
I would imagine there are loads of the proper tanks on ebay

Cheers for the reply mate. I did notice abit of water come out of it, maybe 4/5 drops? But i think my rad cap is fu*ked. The rubber seal is all coming away. SO would that mean that water would come out the over flow even when the system has a little preusre? Instead of opening the valve at a bigger presure?
Cheers

There will always be some water that expands out the overflow.....................regardless of cap condition. But I'd replace the seal or get a replacment cap
I couldn't be certain that the fix I suggest will work long term on a road going bike and you wont have and instant visible indictaion of coolant level that you would have with the proper tank.............................
I use the proper tank on my race bikes for certain meetings when I know I will be held for a long time on the start line with a running engine cos the bike just gets too hot for the small bottle to cope..........................
