Since the engine is coming out and the rest of the bike is being striped down to jig the frame i'm going to get the frame and swingarm done black. Now, question time - satin or gloss, powdercoat or paint? I'm thinking satin, opinions please:

Gloss in large amounts is too shiny, looks cheap.

Paint is cheaper but not as hard wearing. A good ding with a tool and you'll have a lovely chip. Powdercoat can take some knocks.

Although I believe you will have to replace all the bearings which are fixed in the frame if you powdercoat cos the heat process will damage them. May or may not be a PITA depending what you were going to do anyway.

Not going to be an issue. Everything is being removed and either replaced or painted or cleaned.

Also, I've got a few quotes for powdercoating including the subframe, frame and swing arm for around £150. Does this seem reasonable?

+1 on the satin black powder coat.
When i had some of the my parts for my rs powder coated i paid £50 for swingarm front sub frame dog bones and some engine covers.
Most important thing is check the quality of the workmanship powder coating looks cheap and nasty when its rushed.

it'll be from RacepaintUK, place that did my bodywork and the finish on that is fantastic. Plus the owner is a friend of a friend so should be done well
