Well, first of all....Hello to you all!

Here I have my Kwak ZXR400 L9 on an '02 plate. I want to sell the bike as I'm not getting to use it (work+Kids=No bike weekends!!) :smt011 And tbh haven't got a clue on how much to put it up for....so was hopeing some of you guys and gals might be able to help me!!

Well, the bike is immaculate....and I mean spotless, not a scratch, scuff, ding anywhere on the bike and it's been kept in my family since '03. All servicing up-to-date, also has a new battery and battlax tyres and it is currently SORN. I'll be putting a new MOT on it before I decide to sell her. Ooh....almost forgot, most importantly she has only done 9,365 miles!

Whilst writing this it is kinda of hitting home that I'm actually getting rid of the beautiful machine........Gutted!

Thank you for taking the time to read this post and any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Sam

Sorry but I think that's way overpriced. I've got a near mint L4 with the same mileage and I would struggle to get £1400, which is about the top price. You're never going to get close to £3k this side of the next millenium unless you find a village idiot. If you get £2k you've played a blinder.

You need to look at what alternatives people can buy for £3k to realise how unrealistic that is. You can get a tidy big Ducati for that, a Blade, a Gixxer etc. In fact, just about any sportsbike from 1970-2000.

Try £2k and expect to be haggled down - severely. Although you might be putting off potential buyers to start with as some will feel awkward proposing several hundreds of pounds less tan your price if they can find no faults.

Thank you for your response. If a little harsh! You obviously have the right to your own opinion and perhaps £2995 is a bit rich but sub 2k...really!!! I think that the fact the bike is an L9 spec and on an 02 wouldn't really put it in the same realms as an L4 to compare it with. Agreeably with the money that I would ask there are numerous of other bikes that could be purchased but I think that's some what missing the point. If you looking for a sporty 400 your not gonna be looking at a gixxer. IMO of course. Once again though thank you for your reply!

I completely agree with tirptz. Bear in mind there ain't much difference regarding the spec between L9 and earlier, except the engine is a little heavier in the L9 and also putting out a touch less power than early models.

If you're looking for a sporty 400 you've most likely just past your test and can't afford anything like a gixer, or you want something more reasonably priced. Don't get me wrong, I'd be bloody envious if you sold it for anything above 2k, but I don't see it happening. Sorry

Just because the bike is 02 reg doesnt really add value.................it could have been sitting in a showroom from late 1998..............and L9 spec is practically no different from L4 bar the colour scheme................

It's a very fresh and clean looking L9 £2995 is too much for a private sale.....................I would doubt that even dealer prices would be that high.

I said this before on this forum and got flamed for it but it is true

Your bike is worth exactly what the buyer is prepared to pay for it...................and not one penny more.

Just had a quick look on Bike Trader and £2995 is top end dealer price with full dealer facilities you have no chance of getting that kind of price

I reckon on the current market you be looking at £1800-£1900 tops. :tease
I had a couple of grand to by my zxr 400 in may this year, but in the end i bought a
low mileage 1998 l8 with 7000 miles with brand new tyres chain and sprockets kit for £1100, :excited
okay the body work is not the best but i like to do race reps on my bikes,
I think people try to price there zxr 400l in to the same league as the honda nc30-35 when there just not quite there yet may be a few years. winks

ok....OK....reading you all loud and clear!! :smt002 So 2,995 is too steep as it's a private sale.....but obviously I want to price this as ono with a bit of room for bartaring/negotiation! if I price too low to what I'd be willing to take then I have no meat left on it for negotiating....but on the flip side if I price too high then I won't recieve the enquiries!! :smt017 Now I would not sell the bike for sub 2k....I'm not selling it for the money just lack of use so if I cant get that then it can stay sat in my garage as it has done for the past 2 years!...Now if I could also offer dealer facilities.....obviously not HPI but warranty etc then that could warrant a higher asking price.....?? and indeed value!

And as Cargo said, it is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it!!

Perhaps £2.5 with room to negotiate down to £2k

You still occasionally get never used crated ZXR's come up for sale.. I think the last ones were 3495.00 so 3000 is a bit pricey.

Get what you can for it, a collector might fancy it!

I sold my L1 a couple of months ago for 900.00, that had 8500 miles on it.

Mechanically very good with everythign serviced but there was a lot of flakey paint and rusty bolts due to weather... 500 would fix that right up (repowedercoat everything inc wheels)

so say 1400 for a mint bike.

Although yours is 'newer' it's still 9 years old, covered more miles and mechnically there isn't a lot of difference, my L1 had the later cam-chain tensinoer installed as well as the newer carb rubbers and dyno'd to suit.

I'd add a few hunder.. maybe aroud 1800 i'd like to get for it if I owned it, I think you'd manage to get that from the right buyer.

If you're saying you won't sell for less than £2k and that storage isn't really a problem, my advice to you is store it away properly and just forget about it for a few years. I do expect these bikes to become sought after and in 5-10 years time you may well have something people will pay something more acceptable for.

I fully agree with you that the prices are disappointing and although I sounded harsh I'm from Yorkshire and we tend to say what we mean round here. No offence intended :smt002 I've owned mine from new and it's a disgrace what I could get for it so I would never sell. I just couldn't be arsed for 1400 notes. But that's the price so what can you do vsad

Very true... And I think you're right, crate it for a few years and then look at moving it on. Knowing me though I'd probably want to bloody keep it then! Ha! Well guys thank you for all of your help and advice. It has certainly helped with my decision making....p.s. 10 years time...watch this space cos there's gonna be a lovely zxr 400 up for grabs... Yours for£2995!!
