North Yorkshire Police Camera Van

If you're out and about in North Yorks you need to be aware of this
http://www.northyorkshire.police.uk/safetycamera It's harder to spot than you think as it often faces the direction of traffic, then clocks you going away. So you don't get the glaringly abvious 'I'm a camera van' view of the back - except in your wing mirrors after you've been clocked.
Am fully expecting a letter in the post after Saturday. Passed the thing on a B road of all places

After the racing at Oliver's Mount, nicely placed for all the bikes going home. There's me looking at the van as I approach thinking "that's an odd vehicle with a thingy sticking up out the roof on a pole", until I get nearer and the f*cking penny drops :wanker Camera didn't seem to be poking out the back though, so I dunno, we'll see.
Not too fussed about the points, think I've done well to hold a clean licence for 25 years considering some of the antics

Doubt the insurance will be overly affected. Not so with the car mind, as I only passed the car test last year and these points will be taken into consideration when I reinsure (though they didn't wan't to know about the clean bike licence - funny that :smt013 )
So ride legal y'all in North Yorkshire or ride somewhere else, cos this thing's buzzing around like a fly round toad.

my last one was 65 in a 30 earned me a 2 month ban and £250 fine it was one of the old fashioned hand held hairdryers that got me he was hiding in a hedge
Never been caught by a modern camera or a lazer hand held. Just a matter of local knowledge and keep yer eyes open

Cargo's right. Notice there was no complaint in my post. If you speed you know the risks you take, work them out, go with what you're happy with and don't moan if you get nicked. I was just warning that they're out there, choice is yours.
Won't be a ban if worst comes to worst as I avoid those odds. And stick to 20s, 30s and 40s. Those areas are more dangerous in terms of risk of accident and risk of cameras.
What I'm pissed off about is the dickhead who saw the van hundreds of yards away and was musing over its appearance, oblivious to the possibilities. As yer man says, keep yer eyes open AND your brain in gear. Duh.

As a footnote to this.................
I visit the IOM a lot..............and there are a lot of 30 and 40 areas nowdays during the TT these areas a policed very closely...............and hundreds of people get caught........they even set up a special office at the police station for those with fines to pay............it is so easy to avoid getting caught a child could work it out.
And at the same time theres miles of road with NO limit whatsoever and the idiots cant figure that some good behaviour in the 30 and 40 zones will lead to huge fun in the unlimited zones........................stupid really...............

Oh joy, Postman Pat delivered the fine today

75mph on a 60mph road, so just squeak in as eligible for Speed Awareness Course. Dunno whether to go for that (£93, no points, 4 hour lecture, possibly day off to attend) or take the £60 fine + 3 points. Don't think the points will bother the bike insurance much but it's the car insurance I'm not sure about. Currently costs £180 as named driver on missus' policy, how much extra would the points add on?

i didnt think points effected ur premiums that much? regardless of which license??
and why would it effect one license and not the other if it does at all???
no fine for me yet so hopefully ive been lucky lol

You don't have more than one driving license. You have one license with multiple entitlements to drive different classes of vehicle. Whatever you're driving when you get a conviction it goes on the one license. If you get banned driving a bike, you're banned, period. That means if you have car, HGV etc entitlements then you're banned for the lot, no driving allowed. So when you get points you can't tell the car insurer 'this doesn't matter to you as I got them on a bike', points is points and they don't make prizes, not in this game.
Three points don't make much difference to bike insurance, especially if you've held the license for a while. But they make a lot of difference to rip-off car insurance, especially if you get them within the first few years of holding that entitlement. Which is me. The course costs £85 in S Yorks so I'll do it here, not in North Yorks. The car insurer would deffo charge me more than £25 in increased premiums over the next three years if I just paid the £60 fine, so it's an investment.
Don't be so sure you're not going to get a ticket. Mine took over a week and apparently that's quick. Three weeks is more usual.

yeh i knew all that which is the bit i was confussed about coz it sounded like u were refering to it being two different things
and its been three weeks today, so if its not here in the next 48 hrs i got away with it
besides all of which when ur paying £180 for car insurance and a few more quid is nothing lol im payin 900 for my zxr :S

and personally id take the class and pay the £90 coz you have to mark points down for everything for the next 5 years otherwise, and that includes jobs lol

I dont know if there is a difference in England from here in N. Ireland, but over here they have 14 days to serve you with the Notice of intended Prosecution...Outside of that 14 days it should be a void and no further action can be taken. This is overruled however if there are problems beyond the control of the prosecution ie. the bike isnt registered in your name/address and they take longer to track you down...I have a friend who recently got caught by the camera van in Belfast, his notice arrived in 4 days.

not sure how it works over here tbh.
but the general consensus seems to be that if you don't hear anything in 3 weeks then your ok...

I'm going to do the course because the bloody car insurers are BOUND to rake back at least £25 over three years if I have 3 points so it's simply the cheaper option. They do a course here in Doncaster, so I'll turn up on my pushbike
Looks like you got away with it Razz. About the only bit of good luck you've had recently.
