Hi I was wondering if anybody would be able to help I was out on my bike yesterday and had it in 6th gear with full throttle and I think it neearly hit top end and all of a sudden the revs went crashing down to 5k for a second then straight back up so I eased off a little and it seemed ok, when I opened up again it did the same thing, Which seems worrying has anyone got any ideas why this would happen ? thanks in advance. Oh my mate reckons that the gears or clutch are slipping in second and third because the revs shoot up ?? he also said something abou when he tightened up the clutch plates he just tightened them up tight not with a torque wrench any help/advice woul be really appreciated thanks, my bike is a H1 model if any help cheers.

Re. the revs dropping - That could be related to several things. It could be the coils are having trouble at high volts/revs, the HT leads could be on the way out, the fuel pump may not be up to the task, the carbs may need a look at - It could be tricky to pinpoint this.
As for the clutch, strip and rebuild it using the correct torque settings. Make sure the plates haven't worn due to slippage.

Hi Steve thanks for the reply. Is there any way to check the things you listed above to see if it is them ?, will there be anything clearly showing if there goosed ? I.E splits in the lead. Also will it damage the bike riding it whilst it's like this ?.
Is it only the clutch plates I will need to strip down ?, the guy said the plates where replaced 6 months ago so hopefully they will still be ok, can i get away with using gasket paper for the clutch casein or will i have to buy the proper gasket ?.
Thanks alot for your help and sorry for being a pain

If the coils or leads are on the way out the bike would probably missfire at high revs, producing a backfire/pop from the exhaust as the unburnt fuel ignites in the hot exhaust. Another way of checking this is to simply swap the coils/ht leads for some that you know work - try a friendly breakers, take the bike to them and say you'll buy the coild/ht leads if you can use theirs to check first.
Re. the clutch, I would strip the lot and check the basket for signs of damage. Check the plates for warpage by removing them, clean them with an old rag and place them on a flat surface ie. a piece of glass. Check for blueing on the metal plates too as this shows overheating. If you have a micrometer, check for minimum thickness/uneven usage.
I would use a decent gasket set although I have been known to use cornflake boxes cut to shape/size which worked fine
