hey all im going to have a bit of a play with some carbon fibre soon. im going to do:- engine case (zxr one), tank infil, screen, headlight cover, and if things go ok then im going to have a go at doing some more complicated stuff like frame protectors, front mudguard, rear seat panels and maybe even fairing panels. just wondered if anybody would be interested if the bits came out ok and at a decent price? eventually i plan to make bits for other bikes but for now ill start with the zxr.

Id be interested in the mudguard.......

Make sure you use good resin, ive got tank cover (by RMKD), genny and clutch covers for mine, and because the resin is cheap the sun and heat has caused it to go cloudy.

probably the most popular DIY carbon website

yeah ill just be starting with small stuff at first but i aim to do a complete bodykit for my bike and a mates zx7r. ill be doing everything myself so unlike the exhaust adaptors i was going to do, it will really be down to me and not rtelying on somone else.

right ive got all the stuff on order so hopefully by next week i should be well on the way to having a finished product (tank panel). ill put some pics up to show what it looks like and ill price them accordingly, probably be ABOUT £45 delivered on here and £45 plus postage on ebay (although thats not a definate price)

bit of an update. i got the kit yesterday and im making moulds for the tank infill and the two mudguard side pieces as i type (well not at the same time but you know what i mean). im doing these parts first as its not too ambitious and i think thats all ill be able to make with the materials i have. i think ill have to get some more stuff to make moulds for other parts but ill be doing the generator covers next. im hoping to have the completed parts by the weekend, fingers crossed.

If your into doing H stuff I'll be up for some :smt004

BTW, are you baking the parts to give them rigidity ?

How about carbon bottom fork leg protectors - could be held on using the calliper mountings :smt007 :smt007 :smt007

If you source some rose joints (No, not the sensimilla type) then a carbon torque arm would be :smt004

On the H , there are infills over the electrics between frame beam and fairing - they would be quick and nice :smt001

Carbon sprocket guard (new design) using some alloy posts to space it out would be good too :smt007

Under hugger for the swinger would be the bomb ! :smt003

I can go on !!! :smt005

MM!

at the minute im doing stuff for thr l model as i have just got a spare bike that i can rip apart and use to make the moulds but im open to ideas. im just at the 'buggering about' stage. ive only made the mould at the minute for a tank infill so ill have to see how strong the finished part is. i wont be able to do everything at once as the stuff for the moulds is quite evpensive. it worked out about £55 to make the mould. i have been thinking about the generator covers. i think they will be harder to do than i first thought so i might see about making a complete case if there is enough interest. i could maybe even personalise them...

right ive been looking at the generators cover but there is a downside. due to the shape of the inside of it, where the brushes screw in ect, im not happy about bonding bits onto the case to to screw it onto. therefore, they will be done as a total loss system as i wouldnt want them failing on a moving bike. they should be ok for racers but i wouldnt recomend them for road use. if anyones still interested let me know.

why not just make covers to go over the existing ones?

i probably will eventually but it seems easier to make a complete case, in an odd sort of way!

Are you making tank infills? Can I buy one?
