This video was posted on another topic recently. Basically you lose a fair amount of acceleration and bout 20-30mph of top speed.
I've never ridden a restricted zxr, but i rode a restricted vfr and it was alrite, but its a whole other beast full power. Obvious really as you are literally halving the power output!!

Re: 33bhp restricted zxr400
i got 110 out of my restricted zxr. Dont be a tit and take them out if you ask me. My mate had a big crash recently, his bike was taken to recovery yard and police wouldn't release it until they'd 'checked' it out, crash wasn't his fault and they knew it. However he got a phone call a few days later when the officer said ' glad to see you had restrictors' in. They aren't as stupid as people think, strangely enough they do know the law. Remember get 6 points and you're out for the count for a while, not least insurance wise. I may sound like im ranting but tbh i can't think of anything more stupid than not abiding by your license.

Re: 33bhp restricted zxr400
Well i've only had the chance to get my restricted ZXR up to 110 and that was on the way home after picking it up from getting it restricted.
Hoping to get it past 110 in the summer
People say it kills its acceleration but its still far faster from the lights than u'll ever need on the road.

If it's broke spray it with WD40, if it's still broke spray it again and leave it over night, if it's still broke, bin it.

Re: 33bhp restricted zxr400
You can always look at it as having two bikes. You've got a 33bhp bike now and when you eventually de-restrict it you'll have a 60-65bhp bike with the benefits of being used to the handling already just with more speed.

Re: 33bhp restricted zxr400
allo, ive only been deristricted on my zxr400 for 1.5 months now and i did a tonne on mine into the wind, off the road obviously, ne thing above 90 and you rearlly have to use fifth gear to the max cuz with 33bhp 6th gear loses all its legs so you have to have the momentum to push the gth gear whereas you would use 6th to pull you if you get what i mean, ne how im gessin ur bout 18-19 like i was/am so ull be racing the boyracers and none of them will catch you, i could destroy nefin bmw's, integra's, vxr's up to bout 85 and then due to 6th gear they would match my pace but its over by then anyway so, but dont try any other bike above 600cc race bike or tourer maybe you could av a go through the bends but you will be destroyed on the striaghts and with overtaking obviously but im just saying cuz my m8 as nearlly killed himself cuz he thinks hes got more power to overtake with than he actually has and when a lorry comes tanking round a bend.......oh toad....
neway anything over a tonne and fairplay.
have fun with the less power you could learn some skills, i could (sometimes) slide the rear in the wet dunno if id try to do it with the 65brake cuz its more powerband like neway me and my m8s loved it and i think you will to. have a gooden.

As has been said you will still get a good 100mph out of the bike but it takes ages to get there. The biggest difference is when you start to get above 9-10,000rpm as it feels like there is nothing there. The downer is this is the best part of the rev range ( 10-14,000rpm) on a ZXR400. I had mine restricted for "almost" 2 years and it does help you get used to the bike and handling.adam5861 wrote:just wondering what sort of speed my zxr is gonna drop down to when i have my 33 bhp restriction on?:(

When they come out you will have a smile on your face when you hit 10,000rpm with the throttle cranked open. In the video I backed it off at 100mph as I knew there was a corner coming, and this was the first time I had rode it unrestricted.
For me getting the restrictors out was only by about 2 months early. It's your choice at the end of the day.
Enjoy and ride safe.

Re: 33bhp restricted zxr400
Thing is tho carney u were lucky.
Imagine if u'd have had an accident 2 months b4 freedom, ud have been back to hopping on the bus for a long time then.
Its all up to urselves but i know mine won't be coming out a day early, it's not worth the risk really, at least if the power difference causes an accident after u lawfully took them out and u survive and can ride again u will be doing, whereas if u get caught with them out most insurers wont touch u and u wont be able to ride for a long time anyway.

It was luck I never got caught or had an accident. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying to take them out, as I said, it is his choice.
As soon as you get them out you will not be able to resist the temptation to scream the tit's of the bike

Re: 33bhp restricted zxr400
I know yeah luckily for me about 5 minutes from my house if u jump on the motorway and loop back round theres a long stretch which has trees high up both sides and u can see for a good couple of miles so u can just race it like a motherf***er down there, had it at 110 down there on the way back from restriction
plus theres a few light bends on it so u can keep ur speed up, hairpin bend at the end tho which is probably a good thing as it exits onto the dual carriageway so it takes away the temptation of thinking f**k it and just gunning it the whole way.
Even restricted my ZXR has more speed than i'll ever need anyway as i'm happy that i can hit 110 and hopefully higher when i get the chance in summer, means i'll get to college in double time
well actually i'll have to sit there with a twitching wrist as i filter through traffic at 20 as its one of the major commuting routes into manchester
However im looking forward to being able to toast the boy racers in their 1.2 corsas when i get her back on the road
Well i say back on the road, shes good to go i just dont want to use her in the winter
plus i wanna get the wheels re powder coated and my back tyre could do with being replaced.

think your right guys better to wait a couple of days for the kit to be fitted than losing my license. a mate of mine got pulled out on by a discovery yesterday and broke both his arms so thats made me more wary. think i need to get my wheels powdercoated at somepoint too. original paint flaking a bit. cant help having a little ride down my road every chance i get
