Just thought after lurking here for a while that I would say hello.
I have been perusing these forums the last few weeks due to my purchasing of a 92 model that arrived on my doorstep finally Friday just past. I already have a ZX-7R but my partner has decided that pillion is not as much fun as being the pilot so has started taking lessons. Initially we were looking at 125's for her to practice on as she has done the CBT part and was wanting to get some experience under her belt so to speak but I was really finding it hard to pay the prices they are asking for them knowing that you can get an awful lot more bike for a lot less money in comparison.
Just by luck this one was being sold by someone on another forums I use for my bike and seemed to good to turn down. At half the price of most the 125's we had been looking at I took an executive desicion and said that we woeuld buy it and use the saved cash towards lessons and test for my better half and still have some money spare (All being well and good!) and at the end of it all she has a 'bigger' bike to use rather than having to sell one and look for one once she is sorted. A bit of a gamble I know but I am hoping long term that the right desicion has been made.
So anyway...back to the bike in hand. Its been off the road and garaged since 06 (last tax disc on it) It arrived at ours on friday with full mot and new fork seals...just had to tax and insure and all was good. I have been told it is totally as standard and it has just under 14,000 miles on the clock. I have been riding around all weekend on it and so far so good. Only issues have been a dashboard light bulb that I replaced in a jiffy. Going to change plugs ..coolant..oil and filters next weekend just so I know where its at in that regard. Possibly may have to give the carbs a once over just for peace of mind as the throttle response when sat still is how can I put it ?...lethargic?....bogs momentarily if you crack the throttle open hard and fast and takes just a little longer than it should to return to idle once shut off but to be honest its not that bad at all and you hardly/if at all notice it when on the move. I am just used to my 7 I guess. But if anyone has any suggestions then please shout out!
The one thing I would like to change at some point though is the exhaust. Nothing really wrong with whats on it but its the only part that is showing any real age and it would be nice to put something on there to tidy it up. Any suggestions here would be great because being totally new to this model I have no idea what is the best system to fit. I am assuming some are like hens teeth seeing the bike is older now. And some are not as good as others but would be nice to know what to look out for or avoid.
