hi davy, bobby here. good to know you are racking your brain and sharing your thoughts. as you know i,m going for the manx gp next year ,any advice or tips you pick up or me i,ll gladly pass on . i,m up to now goin to enter the newcomers and ultra lightweight on the zxr400. goin over in feb for induction.was over in sept for jurby 4hr endurance, came fourth on my freinds sv 650. any hoo see you at east fortune in march. regards bobby

Bobby - great to hear you are doing the manx. The trip in february will be great. is that with Jim Hunter? March cant come quick enough - have just spent the morning digging the car out (again) from the snow. It is well beyond a joke this year. If i could find a way of working in Aberdeen and living in spain I would go for it Roll on summer - quick

Although I've not done it yet I understand what you mean about the IOM attraction as I have done some roads.

My thoughts for Dave was the Manx is an awful lot of expense and time off work to then find the roads isn't for him, cause as you know Roads and short circuits are two different sports!

Vic - my thoughts on the manx is if i dont do it soon I wont be able - 4 laps of the island crouched over a zxr400 is a bit of an ask tbh - lol. I was there watching this year and just getting as much of a feel for it as possible. It is a bit of a combination of awe inspiraing and terrifying at the same time - I am aiming to go across at the end of April for a week to do a load of laps - I am taking the wife for a week away - she doesnt know about the "laps" bit yet - lol.

However, I need to do some roads before the manx so appreicate the advise.

Only problem at the mo is the van which is currently off the road and might be terminal (electrics buggered) so need to sort that out asap. However as we are under toad loads of snow there isnt much chance of doing anyting

yeh , goin over with the hailwood foundation in feb hopefully. thanks cargo for your offer. jim hunter is goin to get back to me soon. once he has dates confirmed.like you dave i was over this year for manx to get the feel of it,ive mixed emotions like yourself, but the support from freinds here and over on iom has convinced me at the tender age of 46 its now or never lol. any hoo hope the snow clears up snow clears up soon .

Guys I'm 50 and well able for 4 laps on a 600 never mind a 400

This year I did two 4 lap races on the Friday............ it was awesome over 300 miles of complete and utter 2 wheeled mayhem I loved every single second of it.

A bit of training does no harm good upper body strength and legs is what you need. A bit of good cardio as well

You need to be able for 30 press up minium. If you can get that up to 40 so much the better.

The trick is to relax when you can there's miles of tucked in flat out bits so ease your grip stretch the fingers and toes. It not like a short circuit where you are jumping on to the brakes every couple of hundred yards.

Remember get the fast bits fast and the slow bits slow keep the sea on your left and if in doubt take a gear out.
A late apex is a safe apex....................... slow in fast out or fast in faster out.

You will love it my heart rate is up just thinking about it

Dave, You have had me thinking about the age thing for a while now and your right. Along with the UC nationals I think I will bite the bullet and give the Manx a go.

So Cargo you can make that five ZXR members (any more and they might run a seperate race just for us) and I am up to four press ups already!

On a serious note both my bikes run total loss. Is it possible to complete the four laps on one battery?

yes four laps on one battery is no problem.......................provided it's a good battery and fully charged. Does no harm to have a new one

I've seen a ZXR 750 do six laps on one battery


It is also possible to fit a slightly bigger battery if you are concerned

For information entries have only gone up by a tenner

The regs are not available yet but I'm hearing that the newcomers race will be on Saturday 27th August and the 400 race will be Monday 29th

But best to wait for the regs as I know there is much discussion going on................

As for getting there if you want to take a bike or car the you have no choice it the Steam Racket. You can book online too

Given that so many ZXRworlders are racing this year perhaps a forum meet on the IOM might be fun.

If you can cook then you might want to consider entering the annual Paddock Campsite Stew Cook Off
Roads in the campsite will of course be closed for this event as safety is very important

Competitors will be require to cook a stew and after tasting and much consideration there will be a vote taken to find a winner.............
