Gadanga

Post by Vard66 »

Been a while, ladies and gents.

Mainly prompted to come on here and catch up because I'm down in cornwall this weekend for an annual car forum camping trip, and this afternoon on my way back from Lizzard, I spotted a very tidy ZXR400, with rider and pillion both riding in shorts and t-shirts. F**king planks. If it was you, put your bloody leathers on, I know it's hot, but Jesus.

This weekend, and these roads down here make me miss bikes, God alive I cannot let it be much longer before I get another two wheeled machine, at the moment I'm dithering about in ma's ratty old Subaru Legacy, which is quite frankly driving me bananas.

Since I was last on the forum, I've done... well, precious little. My ZXR400 has been sold, to a fellow who I believe is on the forum; or at least browses, and I regretted that decision the instant I sat astride it to move it out of the garage onto Ian's trailer.

I have two more project cars sitting on my driveway at the moment, bother Rover turbos, one very rare machine, a 420 GSi Turbo (earlier non sport) in flame red (funny that);

(Imma now just shamelessly copy and paste from a Rover forum thread...)

MG Mal very kindly offered to trailer the car to my house for the sum of whatever it cost him in fuel to do it, which turned out to be £20.

A few hours later, after a couple of cuppas and much nattering, I'm home, and the 420 is sitting in a barn about half a mile from my house, where a friend has also very kindly agreed to let me store it, out of the weather while it has dirty big holes in the side of it.

Now, pics of the car - I'm going to simply steal the photos that Squaddie took of it when he picked it up, though do bear in mind that all the rot has been cut out of the car, and anything that hasn't been cut out has been rubbed back and Jelonite'd.

Here's why it was offered at such a bargainous price -

The minor bits;

Surface rust on the bootlid;

Little hole in the N/S Rear arch;

Some minor surface rust on the A pillars and across the top of the windscreen;

And the serious bit, the O/S Rear arch and sill;

So there's that, my self-teaching-welding-project, and then there's a joint project between myself and a friend, an 820 Vitesse, for the upcoming Crumbally Rally titled 'The Italian Job', touring ~1600 miles in three days including most of the major filming locations from the 1969 film of the same name.

Ok, can't get to any decent res pics of the Vitty at the moment, I'll do that later if I can be fecked.

So anyway, how has everybody been on here, barre bendog', whose sorry tale I have read, epic bad luck dude... and MM, who I spoke to a couple of nights ago?
