Changing Import to UK spec? Need help..

Post by wildkid »

Ive fitted Uk clocks, M marked CDI but was wondering if its possible to change the headlights and change the r/h switch so the bike has sidelights and the option to turn on and off the Lights? would they just connect straight in to the usual connections or what? Share some light please :)

it's possible, but the lamps are expensive, sidelights are useless, so why bother? I only know of two occasions when i turn my light off... track days, and when I'm trying to start it on a low battery! If you just want this ability, just put a little throw switch into the 12v feed line for the lamp, and put it on the little bits of fairing by the right bar. you're always best to right with you light on for safety's sake anyway.

but it could be done, with i expect a little soldering at most.
I do 700 miles a week in all weathers including snow, that's roughly 35,000 miles a year, and some weekend warrior biker has the nerve to get out of his Audi at work to tell me to I was riding far too fast in the wet (over taking at 50... fast eh?).

I did this, then took it off so.

Yes you can.

However, you need the loom for the sidelights as this wont be on the Japanese loom.

I believe the automatic headlights are controlled by the junction box, when I fitted a UK junction box to my JDM bike the headlights didn't automatically come on, but I had no switch so I couldn't manually turn them on.

I'm guessing that you could use the JDM junction box with either bike, as the headlight switch will over-ride the lights, but you cant use the UK junctionbox with the JDM bike as you wont be able to turn the headlights on.

Is there any real-reason you want to do this? With the auto-lights you dont need to remember about turning them on, other drivers will be able to see you better too..

Interesting.

You can get some adapter rings for about 10.00gbp.

They will let you use standard H4 bulbs quite easy (you can use them without the rings but the rings make it easier)

You should always ride with your lights on, its easier for cars to see you.

Most of the new bikes, CBR / ZXR etc have lights on when the engine is running anyway, you can't turn them off.

I wouldn't worry about the bulbs blowing just because you've got the light on all the time. I've done 9000 miles on my bulbs and they haven't gone. IIRC my GPX250 did over 40000 miles and I changed the bulb once.

The bulbs are expensive when they do go - but then so is a funeral :smt002 I'd rather have them on.
