There seems to be more and more members appearing that are racing the ZXR400 so i've created a special section just for you to show off results, discuss meets etc etc.

L9 Brake Upgrade

Post by Khany »

Hello peeps,

Newbie that has bought a ZXR400 track bike to learn how to ride properly.

First time out on track and realised how rubbish the brakes are, no stopping power at all. Thinking of upgrading and wanted advice on best setup. Google searches suggest GSXR 600 k1-k3 calipers, Ducati 748/916 master Cylinder and some form of braided hoses and sintered pads.

Also hae a gearbox that gives false nuetral when downshifting, very scary when barreling into corner and loose all engine braking. Has anyone experienced this and how have they solved it. My bike seemed to do it at least once each session.

Can someone give me some advice on what the best way forward.

Great bike though, love the way it handles.

If the front brakes are in good condition with race pads & braided lines the brakes should be more than adequate. However the 600 calipers are amazing & would recommend changing to those instead of doing a caliper overhaul. There is no real need to change the master cylinder.
As for the gearbox I would recomend inspection of the engagement dogs as the may be rounded off due to abuse.

Thanks for reply

Does anyone have a link to a step by step installation guide for the K1-K3 gixxer calipers please. Also would like to install new MC - told one on L9 is pants, which ones fit best - 916? or the Gixxer K1 ones and which Hoses do i get (eg. the gixxer hose or duke hose)

Been told to rotate gear select lever upward through spline so downsifts are more positve/brutal to ensure gear is engaged. May try this. Anyone else had same problems with Gearbox? Would changing to race shift pattern make a difference (ie more positive flicking lever upwards to downshift than other way round????? sounds like a long shot to me)

HI, just fitted some gsxr 6 Pots to my L1. :smt016

You really dont need to uprate the MC......

They really do stop you.

They came with some Spacing collars to fit straight on.

There is a thread somewhere about it on the forum
