i cant see why people use them personally, was speaking to a mate today, whos supposed to have them and hasnt (mention no names! you know who you are!!lol) and he says the same thing, the only time youre ever gunna get caught out is in a serious crash and the chances are you will be dead or seriously injured and wont be riding the bike for some time anyway so what would a ban matter in that case? lol

But ud find it incredibly hard to get insured after that, most insurers wont touch u if u get caught without ur restrictors in.
If it's broke spray it with WD40, if it's still broke spray it again and leave it over night, if it's still broke, bin it.

But ur hanging on that chance that u wont get caught, think of it in another similar way though, imagine your caught lifitng cash from the till at work, no ones going to let u near a till again even if you go to another job if they get a reference from the job u got caught from, its effectively the same thing if you've broke the law by removing your restrictors insurers wont want anything to do with you.
Mine are the real deal too mate cost me £170 to get em fitted by ashton kawasaki as i didnt wanna risk it as there was alot of confusion goin about whether they had to be real Fi Internation restrictors or wether u cud do a home jobby.
And there was actually a story a few years back about a guy who had an accident and was asked to produce his restriction certificate, he sent the original instead of photocopying it and the copper he sent it to lost it, he ended up getting sued as he had no proof of ever having a certificate for it, i can only assume the bike could not be dynod due to damage otherwise they wouldnt have taken him to court, in the end i think he won but at the end of the day its a hell of alot of hassle simply to get £50 for urs on ebay, and he had the restrictors in and got taken to court! imagine what would happen when you get caught and dont have them in!

I'm guessing this is to do with the test being made harder in April, loads more people than usual have passed their bike tests this month and are out looking for new bikes, both full power and restricted. Bikes on ebay are fetching loads at the moment, been watching a few ZXRs that would normally fetch £800 go for upwards of 1200!

The only thing I will say is that riding without your restrictors in means that you do not have a valid licence. This is because your license is for a motorcycle upto 33bhp. If you dont have a valid licence, you dont have insurance. Simple. No insurance means that you have no Third Party liability
At the end of the day - you make your own choices. Sure, run the risk if you think its worth it. But do it knowing that you are consiously breaking the law and riding without insurance.
And before anyone comments - I have a road legal exhaust, and all my mods are declared to my insurance company.

I didn't want a specificaly illegal exhaust I just wanted a really loud one but didn't mind if it wasn't road legal.
If it's broke spray it with WD40, if it's still broke spray it again and leave it over night, if it's still broke, bin it.

Yes, we all know ffs. The only reason everyone does it is there is precisely 0% chance of getting caught, so get down off your high horse and shut the hell up.Caz wrote:The only thing I will say is that riding without your restrictors in means that you do not have a valid licence. You're right, we make our own choices so we don't need twats like you preaching on about how perfect you are in every 33 bhp thread that comes up.

Unless you crash then thats probably pretty close to the truth, or you ride like an butt nd get pulled by a cop who knows his stuff. The only reason everyone does it is there is precisely 0% chance of getting caught,
Saying that i got pulled yesterday (mot expired, i had no idea!!! bugger) and he had no idea about restrictors, he asked if i had to stick to a certain cc and i just said nah i can do what i want lol. I was slightly nervous as the zxr has never seen restrictors

Hi,
Big fooking whoop about restrictors. Like everyone else says, if your stupid enough to ride without them when you are meant to have them in like a good boy, then it's down to you IF you get busted or not. I'm going to admit being 1 of them bad boys because I really don't see a point in them, unless Kawasaki have started up their own police force to Dyno everyone's zxr400 they see.
I mean FFS my bro was restricted to 33bhp for 2 years when he had his 60mph T-bone on a ZX6R G1! That bike is what.... 120BHP? Oh well. The insurence came round, looked over the bike, saw that it was mashed potato and left. No engine stripping, no dyno etc... And my bro is still lucky to be alive today. No court bollox, no getting his licence taken away from him, no ban etc...
And that's all folks.

Rich

Re: If you have a spare restricter kit...Get it on ebay!
When I was riding a 125 on L plates, i had a tzr125rr belgarda and it was dyno'd at 32bhp at the back wheel.
That's a 125, but it was more powerful than I was meant to have on L plates. Never got asked about restriction from insurance, just declared it as an import and the only person who asked about it was my instructor when I rode it to my DAS training and the instructor apologised that the ER5s we'll be using will seem a little slow but far more grunty compared to what I'm used to. Sound geezer.
I never had to be restricted, asI waited till I was 21 before doing my test. If I was doing it all again now, I'd still probably wait to do my test if only to build up some no claims to make the bikes affordable to insure! (But I'd still be on a TZR.)
