ZXR400 Jack-Up Kits, for us tall SOB's!

Post by arkell »

Came across this

http://www.bikefarmmv.de/EN/tail-riser/ ... fid=200529

so im guessing it would raise the whole rear end inc seat height by 4cm, thus making the little zxr that much roomier for my 6'3 frame?! :smt003

Claims to improve handling too

Any reason why it shouldnt work?

Found this from a few years back
there's no need to buy shorter dog bones to raise the seat height of the ZXR400, they all have ride height adjusters where the top mount of the shock attaches to the frame! all you have to do is, undo the top nut by how much you want to jack the rear end up, then lift the rear of the bike up to take the weight off the rear suspension, then tighten the lower nut up. Job done, your rear should now be higher and it's not cost you a penny! Lots easier than changing dog bones too!
better idea?

6' 3" - I thought I was pushing the limit at 6'1" - if it is any consoliation I have discovered that with age (and sporting injury) you lose a bit of height - based on my "shrinkage" (I used to be 6'2" :smt009) it is just a question of time waiting for nature to take its course :smt003. I reckon by the time I get to 65 I will be the perfect height. - oh - and yes - go for the adjuster - take it to the top of its travel - not sure how much lift this will give but it certainly improved it for me

If by doing this you are trying to achieve more leg room then you won't succeed.

Adjust the top shock length adjuster all you want but the distance between seat and foot peg will remain exactly the same

but surely the jack up kit would increase the distance?

Nope...........think about it the footpeg is bolted to a fixed point on the frame and the seat is also bolted to a fixed point on the frame adjusting the shock length wont move or change those fixed points.

The seat maybe higher from the ground by an inch but the peg will also be an inch higher

And of course changing the ride height will change the handing.........................

how can they sell a jack up kit if it doesnt move the tail up?!

Surely it works by increasing the gap between the swingarm and the subframe, which, seeing as the pegs are bolted to the main frame, would thus increase the gap..

I've had this discussion before with a guy I spannered for he insisted that we adjust the ride height so that he had more leg room.......................he flat refused to believe me untill we got a tape measure and proved it.........................................

I consider myself quite bright but had to really think about it!

Will probably be padding out the seat then...no surprises with that mod! :tease lol

I had this problem last year. Ive got long legs, and use a H with L rearsets. They make the pegs very high. great, but it was making me ride duck feet. I fitted a solid race seat, and used race foam. Its only lifted the height by about an inch, but it is right now...

Can only really afford to insure a 400cc bike at the moment, and the zxr is the largest of all 400 sportsbikes i believe. I love it though-hope to keep it even if I do upgrade in a couple years time! :smt003

sounds like a plan!
