Right i've tried a different switch gear and put a new relay on but still my headlights are not working. should they come on at ignition or when the engine is started? anyone else had this problem all my other lights and indicators work fine.

Re: Still got headlight probs
Both ZXR400's I have owned, 1 UK and 1 Import the lights came on when ignition was on with no engine running. I did have a problem with the lights on my current ZXR400 and it was one of the main electrical plugs under the tank that had got all shitty. After a good rub with a bit of sand paper all worked well.
Sounds to me like you have a connection problem, if you have no headlights at all. Good luck as electrics are a bitch!!

Mine come on with the engine, then stay on until you turn the ignition off.

Thanks i've checked the relay and i have a positive contant from the battery and an earth but there's 2 other wires should these be positive on ignition? i'll have another check tomorrow. I've cleaned the connectors but still struggling. at least i've got it running fine now so i'm a bit happier

Re: Still got headlight probs
Mine come on when you start the motor, thats an import. My first ZXR had a seperate switch to turn them on and off, that was a UK model, but the ignition had to be on to do that.
Have you checked the fuses? I think the headlight has a seperate fuse. If you have a multimeter check you have a voltage on the headlight pins, if not work your way back. At some point you will get something, it'll be between there and wherever you last checked that the problem lies. Be prepared as you may have to cut the tape off the loom to get to wiring and check it.
I had to do this to lewis' bike, kawasaki connect multiple wires together with a crimp, the one on lewis' bike was all corroded and snapped, and stopped the 'pass' button for the head light from working.
