Re: insurance query
just tell them youre thinking of doing the mods and want 2 see how it will affect youre premium etc beforehand, or you could always just not tell them and if anything was to comeup or happen just play dumb and say you thought it was standard, not being funny but there are lots of people out there that dont actually know they have modifications, and you could be one of them lol

Re: insurance query
I've got all the modifications declared on my bike - didnt put my premium up at all
- road legal aftermarket exhaust
- R&G crash protectors
- R&G fork protectors
- R&G bar ends
- Pazzo levers
- Gilles rearsets
- double bubble
only condition is that in the event of an accident, theyre replaced with standard parts.

Standard parts? No bloody point telling them then, is there?
I think what they really want to know about is performance enhancements or changes that could affect steering/handling/chasis etc. Basically, whatever mods you have, if you can prove it wasn't a factor in an accident then you're in the clear.
Most won't put your premium up at all unless it significantly changes the value of your bike, but most companies WILL charge you to make mid-term changes to your policy for whatever reason.

Re: insurance query
Oh, and also to do with the 'replace with standard parts' clause - in my experience if your bike has a value of under around £2500 then a minor claim will see it written off anyway, rather than bothering to replace any parts with whatever.
It's all pretty toad, really.

Re: insurance query
My insurance ask for value of any accesories and if i have any performance accesories. So i just give them a value for any added extras (carbon fibre bits etc) and tell em about my wavey disks which they considered them as a cosmetic enhancement and not a perfromance upgrade.

Re: insurance query
didn't realise you had to tell em about mods
seriously all my mods are declared on the gix and my premium didn't change, all carole nash are interested in is NOS, turbos or superchargers.

Re: insurance query
theyre interested in if it increases the power of your bike, and in some cases if it makes it more desireable to theives (custom paint jobs spring to mind)
At the end of the day, you make your own choice. I declare them so in the event of an accident I dont have to get into lengthy debates with insurance companies about whether or not the mods invalidate my insurance. In event of a total loss, the insurance company can then take that into account when valuing the vehicle.
And ive not been charged for declaring a modification mid policy.
