PLEASE HELP... Engine down!!!!

Post by oscariki »

Hi, congratulations to all members for the forum!

Let me introduce... I'm writing from Spain (Barcelona) -sorry for my bad English-, and I'm the owner of an 1989 "H" model, recently imported from Italy wit 35.000 kms.
ZXR400 is a very strange motorbike in my country, as it was never officially imported by Kawasaki.

I bought it for racing, and after only 100 kms the engine was broken in Valencia circuit.
Suddenly a blue smoke appeareed and I had to stop the engine without crashing.

The result is this (fist picture is the bike):

I don't know anything about mechanicals... but a friend who love to repair old Spanish motorbikes will help me to repair the Kawa.

Could any of you advise about which could be the best option? Whic pieces I have to buy and where?

Thank you so much!!!!

Hard to be absolutely certain but looks very much like a valve has broken and gone for a bounce round in the cylinder...................and the cylinder next to it as well

First off if you are going to fix it the whole engine needs to be stripped there could be metal fragments everywhere....................

Once again is hard to be certain but I'd say the cost of repairing the head would be excessive so perhaps a new or second hand head would be best
Same for barrel........................

If it was me ?

I'd buy a good engine.......... and completely refurbish it
Use the broken one as a source of spares

Might even make sense to try and buy a complete bike depends on whats available and the cost

Carbs and air box need cleaned out as well could even be bits up the exhaust.

BTW not seen many do that.................you have my sympathy

Thank you very much for the comments.

Initially, the repair cost in terms of reparation hours is not important because a friend of mine will do it at home, he's used to repair classic motorbikes.

Buying a new engine is difficult because I have to pay also the transport to Spain... If I were living in UK, for sure it could be a good option.

So, my first choice will be trying to repair and clean the full engine.

Considering this, which spares I need?

1 Cylinder
4 Valves
1 Head?

Could you suggest any place to buy them?

Thank you so much.

And as gift, here is a picture of the Cheste circuit, just before the engine crashed...
