There seems to be more and more members appearing that are racing the ZXR400 so i've created a special section just for you to show off results, discuss meets etc etc.

Hi Julie, Which track is better is a just down to personal choice.. they're all different. If you've not done a track day before I'd recommend you went to your nearest one which I'm going to guess is Pembrey (?). I've never ridden there myself but I'm sure you'll find it challenging enough for your first go. Try looking on the 'net for a good trackday company that is organising a trackday there.
Once you've found a date and booked your track day (go for the novice group of course) make time to check your bike over. You'll need your tyres and chain in good order. There's no need to do too much to your bike, but riding your bike hard on a track will show up any short comings and a knackered chain or worn tyres can spoil your day. You'll need one piece leathers or a good zip together two piece of course. You don't say whether you will be riding to the track or using a trailer/van, but if you're not riding there then bring a few basic tools to tighten anything that comes loose and adjust your suspension and a jerry can of fuel.
Getting your knee down isn't the B all and end all of enjoying a track day, and I would concentrate on getting used to a track first. After a few sessions you'll probably be confident enough to go a bit quicker than you maybe would on the road (although going fast isn't compulsory), and if your going quicker and on the right line then your knee might start to find the tarmac. If it doesn't don't worry, having your knee down on a track day doesn't necessarily make you faster or mean you'll enjoy it any less.
Stay within your limits (only you know what these are) and build up slowly. Better to go a little bit slower than to throw your bike into the scenery! Take breaks, and drink plenty of water. Don't feel pressure to go out on a session if you feel tired.. track riding can be mentally any physically tiring and don't let faster riders goad you into going faster before you're ready... Above all enjoy it.. and be warned that track days can be highly addictive.. and if you get hooked you might find yourself wanting to race!
Good luck and don't forget to let us know how you get on will you?

My mistake, you did say you would be riding to the track.. that's fine, just stick a screwdriver under the seat to adjust the suspension if you need to.. there may be fuel available at the track.. you can find this out by calling them before you go. Enjoy!
Pembrey or Anglesea I would say. Like agent orange says Make sure your bike is prepared well. I do some Instucting for Hottrax and the number of people who run out of brake pads is amazing. Just take you time to learn the circuit for the 1st couple of session Then ask to go out with an instructor There normally free and can help you with lines and your body postion on the bike. Most of all enjoy yourself and try not to let the Red mist come down.
Oh yes.. Anglesea.. never ridden there either, I must make the effort to do a few tracks I've never done before, next summer.. I can take my mountain bike to Wales for a summer holiday and do a track day while I'm there.. sounds like a good plan.
Which tracks do you instruct at FLUTE? I'd be interested in getting a few pointers on a track day from someone who understands ZXR400's. I generally do Brands Hatch as it's the nearest track to me.

Do pretty much all the cicuits barring Knockhill Work for Hottrax so try and do as many of them as I can as it,s really rewarding watching someone you help get faster and safely through the day. The new anglesea is an excellent track with plenty of grip. Did a rear tyre in 4 8 lap races on my R1
I normally go with Focused events, but have done a Hottrax day a while ago.. next one I do (which may be in the new year now) I'll see what Hottrax are doing and give you a shout mate. Thanks.

If you are trying fairly hard 20 mins will be plenty long enough It is alot more physical than road riding
