It amazes me how many people on here dont ride with a back protector. I know so many people that are still walking after nasty accidents and they attribute that solely to wearing a dedicated back protector (not a built in one).
All my gear has a built in one - but its thin and flimsy. I've now taken that one out and wear my forcefield one.
If you dont fancy a separate back protector, you can get a replacement Forcefield one for the built in one in your jacket - still wont give you lower back protection though.

what price do you put on your back? Its all very well having a £300 Arai, but if you land awkwardly on your back you may not be walking again.

I'll always go for jackets with some back protection in, but obviously it's not going to be anywhere near as good as the seperate ones.

Are you people who swear by them commuting to and from work every day in them, or just going out for blasts? Not that it makes much difference - commuters have even more reason to wear one - it'd just be interesting to see.

Plus I wear a rucksack most of the time I'm on the bike...

majority are just riding for fun, but when they commute they wear a back protector too.

Unless I absolutely have to, I wont ride with a back pack and prefer to use a bum bag for my valuables and a tail pack.

you could always replace your built in back protector with one of these:

still built in with the same level of protection as a dedicated one. BUT of course you wont get protection to the lower back or to the kidneys.

they are very worth while but it comes to the point were i've got far to much stuff to put on even if im just going out at lunch to go down the shops.

How are they to walk around in? I might get one for when im riding for fun but for the commute its just to much hassel (and of course when your most likely to get knocked off..)

There is different sizes, shapes and lengths, if you've got one thats uncomfortable you bought the wrong one.

I can walk in mine no problem.
