undoing broken screws

anyone got any idea the best way to go about it? Just emptied out Lewis' petrol tank and theres a alot of rusty crap in there, filtered out the bits from the fuel and run through the petrol without the fuel tap on and ive got twice as much crap out and a toad load of water, im guessing runing the dirty fuel through a rag will catch the water?

Had a look at the coolant today and its seems to resemble oil and not coolant! Quite possibly what they put in it when the bike was made!

well i wanna keep flushing the tank till it come through clear, so its a bit expensive to do it that way!!

the bits i can get through a clean rag, its the water im concerned about.

if you heat the fuel up surely the water will evapourate?

the fuel will evaporate first though ..

if poured slowly from one container to another the water and fuel will stay separate, and you can leave the water behind in the original container.

The fuel will evaporate way before the water does, and boiling point for water is 100degrees, i really dont fancy heating the fuel up to that!

gonna filter it through a clean rag and see how it goes! Looks like ill be getting the carbs apart again too for a good clean!

Empty the tank and leave it in a nice warm room for a day or two any water in there will dry out..............

To clean the inside of a rusty tank put a hand full of some nice stainless nuts and bolts into it and shake it for a few hours. Then rinse

Or buy a tank sealer and coat the inside of the tank

Or get some of that rust killer stuff that turns rust to a hard enamel

managed to do it, was just careful when pouring it out. Only thing is went to clean the carbs out as they had thier fair share of water in em and one of the heads for the screws that hold into the floats has come off! Went to undo it and thought, oh thats gone easy.. :smt013

so any ideas of how to take the remainder of the screw out?

glue it back on and say nothing otherwise drill it out and best of luck cos the screw will be harder than the carb body.

dos it not poke out the other side (not taken zxr4 carbs apart before..)? If not its a drill and easy out.

drill a pilot hole then use an 'easy out' or left hand threaded bolt to tap into it and remove

put it in the freezer then just wind it out by hand, once the heads off there's no tension on the thread and the cold should release it and allow you to just unwind it.

managed to do it! Boy did i breath a sigh of relief!

couldnt get to it on the other side rene. Managed to get a hole started with a drill bit and then used a very very small torx bit and it screwed out no problem, found a replacement and its now sorted, just finished putting them back together and about to hook it all up and start it again.

gonna leave the tank as you suggested cargo to dry out, its just the dried up rusty water residue im trying to clean out of the fuel filter at the moment, although its probably ok in there. It doesnt came apart either so ive let it soak in petrol for a bit and see if i can loosen it.

attach the filter in reverse and downstream of the fuel pump and fire up the pump.. flush all the crap back out the way it came instead of through the element
