A few Q's

I'll be putting the bike back together in the (probably distant) future, so thought i'd try and get these answered now rather than when i'm anxious to get it sorted.

1. I will be replacing a lot of the bolts with stainless steel ones so was planning on coating them with copper grease (apart from fairing bolts). Is there anywhere, where you specifically can't/ shouldn't use it?

2. I have an obligatory random part that I cannot place. It's a white plastic washer: outer diameter 25mm, inner diameter 10mm. I seem to remember it just dropping on the floor whilst I was dismantling the bike, any ideas where it came from :smt017

I'm sure there will be more questions to follow....

I think your ok to use it on pretty much any bolt, i did with mine. As far as i know copper grease will just ease undoing a bolt thats been torqued up for years, it wont cause the nut to come loose on its own.

In fact the only place i didnt use it was on the subframe bolts, i used thread lock on that cos both my ZXR's have had them come loose. I didnt use them on the engine bolts either or swing arm pivot nut now that i think about it. Everything else, including the fairing bolts i used copper grease.

Ok cheers, I've used threadlock on the fairing bolts in the past because i've had them undo themselves and the fairing fly off!
Any ideas on the washer? I have a pic.

do one of the engine bolts fit through that washer? I suspect theres a washer that goes on one of the bolts at the back of the motor.

Found it, not a washer as such but maybe the original part was lost and the washer is in there to replace it?

While an engine bolt would probably fit, I already have that bit.
I have another one:
3. Know anywhere that sells steel bolts/nuts rather than stainless ones? I've had a look on the net but they're all stainless. It's a couple of engine mount bolts/nuts I need.

hmmm, only place i can think where that would come from.

your best bet is probably the original kwak ones mate, whats wrong with the ones you have?

One of them had been replaced by a non oem hex bolt that was already partly rounded - don't really want to risk rounding it off when puttin it back in/ having to take it out at a later date.
The other was damaged when I removed it, don't think it made it....

that looks like a bit of a carb diaphragm... maybe an old one that the previous owner dropped somewhere he/she couldnt be arsed to fish it out of ?

part 92025 is a 0.foo mm shim ive got loads.. cos i never use them.

stainless would be fine for engine mounts.. check the torque settings in the manual, its not that high.

I did wonder if that bit actually did much. Does Cradley use the same part no.s as in those microfiches? i.e if I asked for part 92025 would they know what I was on about?

ok that will save some pennies hopefully, do you know what the torque limit is for say an m8 stainless steel bolt?

cradeley should know from the part number yeh.. althouigh they're pretty good at the "yeh, goes in the .. nah.. its silver .. " kind of descriptions too :)

no idea on stainless m8 torque limit

new thought on what the white washer thing is ..

brake fluid reservoir.. goes on top of the rubber diaphragm
