Anyone else seen the new helmet testing standards. Couldn't believe the outcome. Hardly any lids got 5 stars and the Lazer LZ6 helmet, about £70 brand new got 5 stars.
I bought a Lazer helmet as my first helmet and sold it coz I thought that for £70 it's gotta be cheap and nasty. I then spent £200 on an AGV Stealth thinking it would be better?
Here's the 5 star listings.

Re: New SHARP testing 5 star rating.
Seems to be causing alot of agro. Someone told me due to the star rating you might get a smaller payout in the event of accident due to wearing a lower rated lid?, don't no how true this is but i'm pissed off coz ive not long spent £350 on a Shoei XR1000 and it gets a 2 or 3 star rating. Mite have to sell it and get a cheaper one with a better rating. The likes of Shoei and Arai must be pissed off, if there lids aint the safest how can they ask 3 or 4 times as much money for them.

Re: New SHARP testing 5 star rating.
Because they dont test there lids in the same way as the sharp test does.
Arai did a press release not long ago, something about the sharp test on the side of the helmet and them engineering some flex into believing it made for a safer lid. A google search should find it.
Neither are bad lids, i think the cheaper lids do well because they are a polycarbonate as opposed to the rigid composite lids.

Re: New SHARP testing 5 star rating.
the cheap lids score well because they have uniform shell thickness (cheaper to make), however they are heavier, the vents dont work, the trim falls off and the visor mechanisms are wanky... because they are cheap
all it really means is that cheap lids are safe too
not that arai's and shoe's are crap.
which is great, cos i can pick up arashi lids which score 5 stars for about 50 quid and then go use them on the track without worrying about my noggin, and i get to crash 7 times before i've spent as much as I would have if i'd been using arai's

i've always found arai's over rate, purly got to where they are by being masively over priced and people thinking that makes them better.
Theres another thread around here somewhere with everyones feelings about it.
