Battery

Post by Mori Man »

Well, the battery in my bike turns out to be for an L model or the like !

After many searches i came to the conclusion that an FB12A-A or similar was the correct choice.

Last night i scored an AC Delco DB12A-A for £25 delivered - shop prices here are £75 shocking

:excited

Some progress on the project will be made soon :smt003

I got a battery for my H model ages ago(when I had a zxr) and they gave me an L model battery, which I thought was a little big to fit in, but it sqeezed. Anyway, I got it changed(after the rectifier burnt out) I'm waffling again, blah, blah.

The battery cost me £18 brand new from te spares in Grimsby.

ive learnt my lesson with cheap batterys!! they dont like to much vibration.. actually ive learnt my lesson with fancy expensive batterys too :smt012 Oddysey race batterys...i would'nt bother!
varta or yuasa gets my vote. I use a hayabusa one, fits right in, a bit smaller and more go. especially if you run no charging system.

It was a pretty decent make, can't remember which one, but definately not a total cheapo.

I got told that the ampeage is different, which was why my rectifier may have burnt out. Have I been lied to again?

H2 battery is:

12V 10AH,YB12A-AK or variants of

Rectifier # 21066-1055

L4-9
Battery YTX9-BS,12V 8AH
Rectifier # 21066-1089

You'll cook rectifier/regulators swapping these about.

the AH is only the storage capacity though ? right ?

and according to the nc30 crew a reg/rec is a reg/rec is a reg/rec, they routinely fit R6 units on their vfr's not because the spec's match, but just because they are a close fit size-wise ..

course i may well be misinformed.. but how and why would a smaller battery cook a reg/rec ? and whats the actual difference between the two reg/rec's apart from part number ?

OK,

Your running along a flat road to catch a bus - it takes you 3mins.

Your running for the same bus up hill but still need to take 3 mins - you exert more energy doing so (fitting a 10amp hour battery into a 8 amp system)

Your running for the same bus down hill but still need to take 3 mins - you have to exert less energy but also constantly slow yourself down (fitting a 8amp hour into a 10 amp system)

Starter solenoid, coils - everything play's a part inclding lighting - when you crank your engine the load off the battery is determined by it's ability to hold a charge.

I wouldn't recommend changing the amp hour of the battery from specified.
