Mix tyre choice

There seems to be more and more members appearing that are racing the ZXR400 so i've created a special section just for you to show off results, discuss meets etc etc.

Mix tyre choice

Post by Jerry »

Now i have seen top riders using a mix of wet and dry tyres eg: wet front dry rear, has anyone tried this at club level and if so does it work.

I did it whilst racing supermoto, its only the same as using a soft front and medium rear, if its damp or very very cold you use the softest tyre available for the front, in my case it was usually a ladder pattern 16.5" dunlop wet (which are really good in dry too) and a soft cut slick rear. My supermoto would do around 120mph flat out. Different wets behave differently though, the block pattern moves around more causing quicker wear. Those dunlops are ace, closely followed by the pirelli also with a ladder type pattern.

I think you might have seen a wet front and inter rear, the rear is essentially a cut slick which causes the rubber to move around maintaining temperature. The cuts in an inter rear do little to displace water.
