Re: I'm Down.
the wheel looks close to fairing cuz the current tyre's profile is 10mm more than standard
headstock sounds a likely culprit for knocking

no its not quite 10mm more than standard, the profile is now 70% of 120 rather than 60% of 120.Gemini wrote:the wheel looks close to fairing cuz the current tyre's profile is 10mm more than standard

so 12mm in total which will make it 6mm closer to the fairing.

Re: I'm Down.
Ok, i really need some help/advice now.
*Perfect opportunity for new smiley useage*
After a fer hours of compressing, bouncing, rolling and braking and then some more bouncing of the forks, there is obviously something wrong. The only person with me at the time was my nan, who has as much knowledge of bikes as I do japanese saucer making. So she was not the best person to tell me what was going on when I got on the brakes, and I wasn't about to let my 68 year old diabetic nan get on the bike. She reckon'd that the front wheel did touch the faring when I braked with the front, but then said she wasn't sure... :smt013
What could this be?
Possibly Headstock (Has been changed, both top and bottom bearings, we greased them all up, tightend up the steering column to compress the bearings then slackened it off again. Could we have them too lose?
Could the forks actually be damaged? Fork internals?
Fairing brackets bent and moving the fairing forwards?
Or the worst case scenario, something is bent, yoke stem, frame?

On a final note, Is anyone interested in the bike? Apart from this issue everything else is perfect and in V.good condition. FSH MOT TAX etc etc. PM me if so.

Re: I'm Down.
forks could be bent mate, even if they look straight, have you still got the 70 profile tyre on?, fairings can't have moved forward otherwise the bracket i gave you wouldn't have lined up and all the fairings seem ok with no big gaps.headstock seems a likely culprit could well be too loose.will pop over asap mate to have a butchers.

The profile of the tyre is 120/70. Which rover has stated above makes it 6 mil closer.

Re: I'm Down.
certainly aint gonna help if there's play in the headstock. thing is you can compress the bearings but if they aint sat in properly in the first place a bit of shock loading can knock em in and when you think its tight and they sit themselves in place your gonna get a bit of play, happened to mine only i had a bout 6" of play

Re: I'm Down.
That is definately far too close. I woulda got the forks checked while they were off, least if they come up straight, you know its the frame.

Re: I'm Down.
It is possible that one of the fairing brackets is bent. It doesn't take a lot to make a big difference elsewhere, if that makes sense
I thought you'd already checked the yokes and forks? As others have said double check all the new head bearings etc etc. Is it still 'cloncking' as you described previously? If not, as I've previously mentioned, the frame could be bent, I know you said that it was a gentle side glance or something similar, but if it was enough to bend the wheel I'm pretty sure it's enough to bend the frame. It's fairly common in racing circles to bend ZXR400 frames very easily and it is a known problem. I bent two in one year, and still didn't have any wheel/disc damage. I don't want to bang on about it, but I just think it's worth checking

Re: I'm Down.
I don't think me or my family could take a frame swap. How can I check the frame? I will get a measurment from spindle to spindle tommorow as previously mentioned. The wheel was bent due to the curb sticking out/raised. Was mor of a gouge as it took a big chunk of rubber out of my supercorsa as well.
