engine rebuild for a novice !

Post by SINGATINI »

hi just put a replacement engine in my zxr 400 first time runs ok
but i want to see what was wrong with my other engine so i have pulled all the top end off down to the now free pistons....
they are a little scored along with the barrel doesnt look that bad to be honest
(water leak had to run it home 2 hours 15 miles dark cold winters night no money or mobile country lanes stuff)
it took ages to start and chugged on full throttle at 40mph in 5 attempts with 20 mins taken to restart each time
so there you have it its stripped out
the head looks ok water pump works when i free spin the motor so it wasnt that
never seized a bigger bike than a vespa or lambretta so dont know if that was what happened due to the lack of water?
maybe a leak from a seal somewhere round the pump
is it worth me sorting it out or flogging it on in bits?
well what shall i do and what about all the new gaskets prices etc...
thanks for looking in John :smt013

without water, temps would have been very high, enough to cause pistons to expand beyond normal use id of said.

you're not gonna get much for a shagged motor mate, put it up for spares/repair?
Don't forget people there is more to the zxr400 than this forum... check out www.zxrworld.co.uk also.
