Re: what do you know about restrictors????????????
hi, there was a post on here somewhere about recognising which is which i'll have a dig through see if i can find it.
Ebay is probably your best bet, and i'm sure someone will be along to clarify.

Don't forget people there is more to the zxr400 than this forum... check out www.zxrworld.co.uk also.

Re: what do you know about restrictors????????????
Hey there, Bentley didnt give me an electrical engineering placement when i applied, so im not helping you!
Only kidding mate
CDI's i dont know how you tell from UK and Japanese.
The Itoham rep is the L4A model, not sure if they are imports or not. But there does 'seem' to be 2 forms of restriction; obviously the speed restriction with the tab in the speedo thats for sure, you will know if this is present as there will be a wire coming out of the back of the speedo that plugs into the loom, if not then its possible that the speedo has been changed for a UK mph one, and a derestrictor has been fitted or, there is a loose wire hanging off the loom round the back of the clocks which may kick in the 10k rev limit. The 10k restriction im not 100% sure about tho, i have a feeling that you only get that if you dont have the speedo plugged into the loom, like its a default setting cos chances are you wont do more than about 100mph at 10krpm anyway.
The black box is the derestrictor and they come up on ebay from time to time, Bats motorcycles i believe sell derestrictors but they are about 100 quid from them, but they seem to be the only supplier.
When i get chance, ill be running my bike with and without the restrictor to see what happens. Im also in the process of designing a derestrictor for the ZXR, ive just yet to build it and test it out.
Hope that all helps

Give ams motorsport a call, will tell you everything you need to know about the cdi boxs, and can get un-restricted cdi boxs for uk clocks.

Re: what do you know about restrictors????????????
Does anyone have, or can anyone make a simple wiring diagram for the 3 wires that go into the speedo?
I need to remove my speedo from my race zxr400 but when I do it causes the rev limiter to come in. I need to know what to do with the 3 wires that the speedo plug into, or at least where they go and then I can work it out.
Thanks,
Paul

You'll need a derestrictor mate, or you can buy a restricted speedo, rip out the insides and connect the circuit up to the three wires. Alternatively you can buy a uk CDI

Re: what do you know about restrictors????????????
im on 33bhp, my insurance carol nash didnt ask me iether but i told them wen they asked if id modified the bike.
i aint done a high speed test yet sodnt know wat the top end will be, my gpz500s did 107mph so i recon 110-115mph. id does slow the acceleration down aswell, go on utube and whatch some acceleration clips 0-100mph n u can clearly see that with it restricted it desrtoys the acceleration. i was quite supprised to be honest.

Posh-Faith "Red Rev" limiter cut is still available.
ZXR250/400/750 (89~95) 5,040 Yen plus 1,800 EMS + PayPal = 7,182 Yen (About £35)
(They were raping you selling them at a £100)
M-Max "Black box" same as above except they list a different module for the 750.
Will list these in the webshop as there is heaps of them for different models.
anyone wanting one before then , please contact the webshop

Re: what do you know about restrictors????????????
I know that 33bhp restrictors are a rip off!
Mine were £170 fitted which was quite cheap as i did some shopping around and id found places charging asmuch as £300 fitted.
The thing is they can pretty much charge what they want as if you want the bike u have to get it done.
Was gonna have a mate knock some up and fit em myself and get it dyno'd however i found out that you have to both have an Fi kit and have it fitted by an approved fitter.
Some people told me you could do it yourself but i know a few people who got into abit of trouble when producing a dyno certificate even tho it proves the bike is 33bhp.
There was also a case a while back i read about when a guy produced a dyno certificate to the police, the police officer lost the certificate, and without being able to prove it existed (as being a dumb man he didn't make a copy) he was taken to court. In the end i think he won but at the end of the day its far less bother to ave it fitted and pay the extra money to be able to show them the Fi certificate and have it over and done with.

If it's broke spray it with WD40, if it's still broke spray it again and leave it over night, if it's still broke, bin it.
