New to bikes little worried maybe head gasket!!

Post by DazSH »

Hi all i am doin my test on the 9th of november and have had my zxr 400 for about 2 months.

Well here we go :

The bike runs fine. but i started the other day as its been sat for a while . and ive been getting a white cloudy thing on the oil window so thought straight away head gasket... ahhhhhh but the m8 i got it from had it sat there not starting for about a year so i did an oil change and the oil was fine coming out so made me think..
Then after adding a new oil the new oil still frost the window after its started to cool back down so checked oil again, and oil is still the same as it went in?? Clear

Is it just because it aint moved in a year or is it because of the headgasket. Should i wait till its had a good run after the 9th nov (touch wood i pass) and see if it is still doing this?? :smt017

hi there good luck with your test sure youll be fine! i had same thing with oil window on my girlfriends zxr400 that had been stood a while outside its was just condensation build up. read once in MCN its quite common a good run after oil change should clear it if not they suggested running engine whilst up to temp with oil filler cap removed and let the water evaporate! dont rev it though i made that mistake and was finding oil all over the place for weeks!!! :smt003

if you want to know for sure then a compression test would tell you but it does sound like it is due to the bike not movin but you never know!

yeah don't fret mate its just condensation, you will notice it more with the weather cooling down.
