bought me a house!
in treacle town (nuneaton), 3 bed semi, set into the woods on a quite cul-de-sac...going to be very nice, am currently arm-deep in living room refurbishment, but on the plus side i have a massive garage and a big rear car-port which will hold all my "dirty" tooling, the garage will be a bike showroom and house my hydraulic lift and roll cabinets...its not as nice as morimans, but its a start
Front
car-port - the garage is 4x the size of this
kitchen
conservatory
garden
the woods
the front room that im re-furbishing
got a new boiler to go in, a few radiator improvements, replace some window panes with argon filled thermal-ground proper double glazing units...and we will be good to go! well we will be when we buy some furniture, carpets, a bed...as we only currently own 4 desks, 2 glass tables, tv stand and a washing machine

Re: bought me a house!
progress has been made
my work room looked like this:
we had to take up floor for new boiler so i decided to replace the flooring, insulate the joist spaces and the water pipes, then fit a new boiler and box it in along with new skirting board throughout:
not too bad for a molecular biologist
next came painting, pale mint green on the walls and white on the ceiling/skirting board along with new sockets and light switches:
i then finished it off with some offset shelves and a curtain to hid the boiler
new carpets and a futon for sitting/sleeping on
and of course a massive desk for my work laptop, A3 printer and gaming rig (aye 7.1 surround speakers - your eyes do not decieve you the 4k TV downstairs has DTS Master Audio HD 7.1 audio, sounds the bóllocks ):
the printer is a bit of a beast
we also have carpets in the landing and stairs, and have finished off the front room except for not having a dining table... ill buy one in the summer

Re: bought me a house!
treacle town bbq was last august for all 6-fingered members of society
here is the living roon, all we need to do now is replace the window frames and glass panels (pilkington K glass, argon filled, plastic dividers, low-emmissivity glass - its the bullocks!)
this is the living room as it currently stands, plus Alice our 8 year old cat:
and the back of the living room where the dining table will eventually go
that TV behind the loveseat is out old behemoth TV that will soon see out the last of its days on a landfill site

Re: bought me a house!
yes i have a lot of lego, and yes they are my side panels on the floor
im off to the new spraypainters tomorrow morning to drop them off and get a quotation for one side panel, the front nose cone, the front mudguard (all 3 pieces) and the rear mudguard.
that then just leaves the fuel tank and cover, and the two rear panels and ill have all the plastics back to brand new.
im toying with the idea of putting the frame back to standard grey powdercoat from the bodged polish job it currently has...and getting the swingarm and torque bar done at the same time...maybe this time next year.

Re: bought me a house!
as well as fitting a few new radiators and TRV's to all applicable radiators ive also swapped all the light bulbs for LED and put a full 300mm of insulation in the roof, as well as insulating the joists in the upstairs floow with 200mm roll insulation as we go on.
electricity and fuel bills for the whole 12 months of last year were £615, thats for 2.5 people (we had a lodger for 6 months) cooking everyday, showers etc. and the heating is never "off" its on a 7 day programable thermostat, temperature across the house never drops below 16C during the day/night and its set to 19.5C on the evenings, i expect it to drop by £50 when i fit the new insulated window frames and good quality glass, and maybe another £10 a month when i finish insulating the upstairs floor and swap 3 of the old radiators upstairs for better modern ones.

Looking good Banner, I would recommend Planitherm total + argon warm edge bar for the glass slightly better u values than the pilk k glass.

Re: bought me a house!
thinking back, i think it is planitherm, my dad used to build the Pasivhaus concent buildings in the UK and he still has all his old trade contacts, a friend of mine down here runs a roofing company so ill have him do all the sub-contracted roofing bits and pieces, need to get our plans and projections finalised (did i mention that my sister is an architectural technician? ) then i can go cap-in-hand to the bank for a £30k addition to our mortgage
