had a slight tumble last year and after getting our house a bit more sorted im now back to working on the bike - goin to take it to showroom condition and only use it as a pleasure bike...no more commuting on it for me
therefore we are out with the old, and in with the new
ive bought a new front fairing, that will be getting spraypainted along with my LHS pannel (needs very minor damage repair) and gonna get my front mudguard repainted too, that will just mean getting the tank/airbox cover, and rear pannels spraypainted to look brand new maybe next year.
ill be taking the wheels and swingarm off (and getting both painted) as i now have a hydraulic bike lift which makes things easier, ill replace the swingarm bearings for now, and save towards a new shock which will just be an in-out job when that arrives
therefore we are out with the old, and in with the new

its not in a bad state, but im going to clean and de-rust my tank over the coming weeks, along with a service of the fuel tap - maybe get a new gasket set and blow any crap out of it as well as cleaning the filter elements attached to it (i think it has one), new fuel filter and new battery have gone in already, gave the carbs a bit of a clean and the bike is running as good as before.
ill drop the oil and filter soon, changed the coolant not so long ago, once the front panels are done ill strip out the wheels front and back and get them blasted back to bare metal, my mate will then paint and laquer them, then get new rubber fitted.
ill buy the bearings for the swingarm and im tempted to drop in the H1 linkage ive got here as its been recently rebuilt and has grease gun nipple points to make future service easier...

the tank de-rusting has started, ive been cleaning it with the de-greaser since yesterday morning, ill give it another agitation tonight, then clean it and add the deox-c, ive removed the lock as i want to re-grease it, and there was a bit of corrosion visable around the air-vent in the top of the tank and the rim of the tank where you fill up with petrol, ive got the tank held at the perfect angle to clean/de-rust all these bits...should come out nice and clean ready for painting some time next year.

I used detox-c with brilliant results on my tank.
Then finished it with Por-15. Fantastic job, looks brand new both inside and out now.

i think it was mr luke who did a review (even though the pictures are long gone), from that i was impressed but have never had the bike off the road long enough to do it properly, ill order the seal kit today - should have a brand new functioning lock, fully cleaned tank and fully cleaned tap by the end of the week, gave the carbs a bit of a clean and fed them with fresh fuel, fired up fine, cant ask for more than that.
cant wait to get the new plastics painted and on now

Brand new front fairing marries up pretty well, a few holes to expand to match original, few bits of glass fibre to shave down for a snug fit, then test fit the headlight and I can send it off for painting along with front mudguard and lhs panel.

headlight mountings were in the right place, but about 5-10mm too long so the headlight didnt seat right, the courier will be here on wednesday to collect it, ive given them a dummy headlight and they will size it perfectly to that, all the other mounts are taken care of except the bottom mounts, i need to get them drilled out to 15mm to fit the rubber collar and tophat spacers properly...then i can send it for painting once im finally happy with it

Courier came a few minutes ago to collect the fairing, here is how much it was out by...not a small amount like
they will cut it to match the headlight, so it should be allgood once that happens, then i can finish a few bits and pieces with it, mainly finishing details, and sanding down the inside so its super smooth and will look good once its painted up.

new fork seal fitted and minor corrosion cleaned up, new rear brake disk fitted and is now no longer warped, new rubber front and rear, replacement front brake lever fitted, cleaned up all the callipers and refitted, just waiting on the side panels, front nose piece and front/rear mudguards and im ready for MOT and the Cov MotoFest!!

dont think ill ever sell my 400, too much time, effort and money has gone into it for that to happen
rang the painter on tuesday, only got a final bit of detailing to do, then laquering, ringing them on saturday, and can hopefully pick everything up the following weekend, then its cosmetically nice looking (except the rims) and can be used again until winter stripdown of the suspension
