A while ago I was reading a thread about removing the oil cooler and wether it needs a bypass or just blanking. I can't find it anywhere!
What was the conclusion to that thread wether it was needed or not?
I'd like to play it safe but can't find one on ebay or anything.
Does anyone sell them or know where I can get one?

You can order a bypass from germany: http://www.zxr400.net/7assracing.html
But as i have in mind you could also use the oem hose to do the bypass.
I don´t remember if it´s necessary, too. However you should see it in the manual.

The thread is in the racing section, search for oil cooler removal, that should get you there.
The oil cooler is removed and either blanked or bypassed on race bikes as they do not stay on the track for lots of time and the oil is changed after a few hundred miles.
As for a road bike I wouldn't remove it, it's designed to cool the oil so it stays in its operating temperature window, if you want to fit some air, coolant and oil temperature sensors to your road bike and test it in winter and summer, with and without the cooler you can and post the results for us you can, but on my road bike the cooler stays.

Well my oil cooler is doing next to nothing as the fins are all bent and it's clogged completely full of dirt. My bike runs a bit on the cool side anyway. I've decided to leave it on now anyway because I can't be arsed to make up the blanking plates and it acts as a dirt shield to the bottom of my engine and down pipes

even with bent fins the physical cooler still gets oil sent round it, and it will dissipate some heat.
once they get super clogged and bent all over the place the only remedy is a new second hand one, or a new replacement. aarons radiators makes oil coolers from scratch (they dont repair them ever), so if you want "brand new" thats probably your best bet, or ring round some kwak dealers/mori man

page 3 blanking plates are £18 and fit really well, i made a cardboard gasket for each of mine, but sealant would be equally good.
