Ready to rock

Post by KwakKwak »

Now that I've finished all repairs etc etc to the bike, she is sitting in my garage ready to go, I'm waiting for feeling to return to my right arm and hand after having a trapped nerve sorted, and for a fookin' dry day. So how do I celebrate the joy of a well sorted ZXR, I've just filed all the receipts and typed a record of all the work, all dated and mileage recorded.

ROCK AND ROLL :smt035

Or a little fire :pmsl
Sorted yet?
Tell me this Mr G, given yours appears to be an sp, how do you find the rear shock, I will be changing my standard shock at some point, it just isn't getting along with the roads here, in fact it's really quite comical most of the time

why not change for a more modern shock and adjust it to your weight, something 5 years old is going to be a hell of a lot better than something 25 years old...
UK ZXR400 L3 (1993) - Fully restored and on the roads, my green beast!
JPN ZXR250 A2 (1990) - Revs to 19,200rpm... 'nuff said :smt003

Yeah im looking into doing that, my shock is kaput, it either works at stopping bumps or putting the power down, never both

I came up with the same rationale this morning, would love an Ohlins, but cost is prohibitive, might go with a Nitron sport, no hurry though, will keep investigating.

Fire's all fixed thanks for asking Kwak. Faulty fuel pump leaked petrol and I think heat from the radiator reservoir hose provided ignition. Not much electrical damage, just re-wrapped the wires. New pump, fuel filter and hoses.

My shock feels ok but might be a little tight. Considering how old it is I'm happy.
Been thinking about doing it properly and measuring her up but I'm a little worried about what would happen if I did fiddle with the shock...

If it's not broken and all that.

Think they should have made the shock so it could be serviced, as the gas pressure and oil would be nice to check, read alot of stuff on the gas pressure and sounds similar to the woes we have, just a theory. Would a 1000 shock be stiffer than a 600 as it has to possibly hold more unsprung mass, looking at picking up a nice 600 shock and getting it serviced so its luuurvely. Lot easier to learn to ride a bike that rides right. Will have to take the rs out when its rebuilt and see how much ive improved! Go for a ride AROUND some roundabouts

Mine almost dumped me mid corner over a sunken manhole cover the other day, rear wheel chatter doesn't begin to describe it. Glad you've modified your roundabout methods :smt002

You cheeky giraffe! You knew what I meant... Anyway, the shock on my bike is ok but I have it very soft as im so light but its weird, I can have it right for my weight but it still jars my back on bumps and im not sure why, but when going round a corner the back starts to wiggle? Wander? Just feels like its going to lose grip though I know its not but it changes from losing grip to fine to losing grip every second over and over again, I just normally keep the throttle on and if it does spin up which is rare I just power through it, quite fun when your going round the outside of a car with knee down and the rear spinning, kept it up with my knee! Felt like Colin Edwards!

Reckon the giraffe pic could be used as an avatar, the Boss here could award it to the biggest BA...giraffe of the month, then whoever totals the most giraffe avatars for the year gets a cuddly giraffe toy as a reward for being a total BA...giraffe, or maybe a camel toy? :smt024
