I know this probably isn't very interesting but I'm just very very pleased at the prospect of getting back on the bike again!

Key Success!
took the ignition switch off my bike yesterday and after a bit of cleaning found the key code - just spoken to an automotive locksmith who reckons he can grind me a key for it (assuming he has the correct blank) for about £25 - tons cheaper than replacing the switch, filler cap and seat lock!

Re: Key Success!
it's on a flat part on the bottom. When you take the barrel off (held on by two bolts from the underside) look at the bottom holding it so that the bolt holes are at the top and the barrel at the bottom. There's a flat part at the very top set back and above the two bolt holers - the number is embossed into this part. If it's anything like mine it'll be encrusted in flaky paint and other cack - judicious use of a Flash wipe and some careful scraping with a thumbnail will solve this! Don't use anything firmer than your thumbnail though as it's lightly embossed in and you might scrape the number off!! The number will be in the format of four digits, a space, then a letter and six more digits.
Hope this helps!

Yes, just bog standard flash wipes. There's no insider knowledge here - they just happened to be the only things to hand in the office yesterday and they did a splendid job! For what its worth me and my missus had a baby nine months ago and I've since discovered that baby wipes are gods gift to cleaning things in the shed!
