Re: ZXR400/600
more pics ..
it almost looks like a bike now !
i'm going to try and get the loom fitted up tomorrow, and the clocks and other fiddly bits, then its one final shopping spree for whatever is still needed, and i'll crack on with the engine.

Re: ZXR400/600
lol, yeh, towel is there as there's no front tank mounts and i didnt want to scratch the frame
its L bodywork Rob (tut tut .. cant you tell the difference ! )
from when it looked like this
as per my avatar.
im after an sp style single seat for it, and a new fairing, then my other tank will have the tank cover bit bonded to it and the hoover tube holes sealed up so the whole thing forms the top of the airbox.

Re: ZXR400/600
it still had 9 days to go ..
i brokered a deal with the seller and he pulled it ..
£135 delivered which seems like a fair price considering how rare they are in good nick.. and aftermarket stuff would work out the same once painted.
sorry Baz !
now i just need a subframe, cos i was planning on running without one and glassing the lights into the seat unit, and im not butchering a genuine sp unit.
i'll see how good the finish is on it, but considering changing the blue to red, and altering the lettering to read 600R
is yours painted or decals Rob ?

Re: ZXR400/600
the green white and blue are painted, but the black number board is a huge sticker.
i paid 120 for mine delivered. Seen go cheaper tho, i think 135 is the most ive ever seen one sell for! They are a much better fit than the fibregalss ones too and once you paid for and painted them youd have spent the best part of 130 anyway.

sorry mate, i did ask him to pull it before anyone placed a bid (which no-one had at the time - last night) but it took him till this afternoon to get round to it.rover220 wrote:git, i was bidding on that and he pulled it from the auction!!zimm wrote:my hand has been forced somewhat as far as the cosmetics on this one go ..

Re: ZXR400/600
fair enough.. my options were,
A: tatty OE panels and a seat cowl*
B: £100 + hassle + paint + not seeing what i wanted every time i looked at the bike (RMKD stuff)
C: sp copy with wrong bum pad and poor fit that i'd have to finish myself (light holes + paint) for about £100 all in ..
D: pay what he wanted ..
i did look at the ones available in japan, but couldnt find one complete (most missing bum pad/lock) for any less..
long as it turns up in 1 piece .. im happy
*cant have 2 seats as its impossible to fit pillion pegs cos the exhaust is really high, and 2 seats means i need pillion pegs for an MOT.

Re: ZXR400/600
oh, yeah ..
proper update ..
I actually started on the engine this afternoon .. much head scratching and looking and coffee drinking later, and the head is all bolted on and torqued down.. gotta slip the new camchain in there, fit the cams and spin her over with some thick ass solder in the combustion chambers to try and check piston/valve clearances .. anything less than 1.5mm and its coming apart again for multiple base gaskets. I'm passed caring about getting MAX power, i'm erring on the side of "not blowing up again".. if it all goes together, sounds sweet, and makes over 100bhp at the wheel, i'll be more than happy.
over a year in boxes, 2 garages, 1 machine shop and a house move .. and i havent even lost a single shim or washer !
which is incredible .. cos i can lose things im in the middle of using half the time
