Re: ZXR400/600
left top mount relocated further back
right top mount relocated further back
sorry this one's hard to see anything in
gives a better idea of where the rear mounts are
coil brackets and tank brackets removed, plus two threaded inserts behind the headstock to take new tank mounting bracket
left front mount complete with CNC'd other .. um bit ..
right hand side modification so that you can get to the new top rear mount with a socket
probably not essential.
hope that gives you some idea ..

Re: ZXR400/600
Cheers! I was hopping to make a bracket that will fit onto the standard mounts, are they the standard mounts just moved back?

Re: ZXR400/600
yeh, the original mounts have been hacked off, re-shaped and remounted in the correct place..
rear mounts are all new too, dont have a stock L frame here to compare dimensions, but they are different.
i guess the rear mounts were done first then the engine was bolted to them which gave the position for the fronts..
been looking at the H frames i've got though, and i reckon it'd be an easier job to convert an H, mainly because the front mounts only bolt to the ally frame anyway. but there is the crossmember on the H which may be in the way.
this is another 4/6 i found a pic of, mounts look way better than mine
but, seems the engine in that is further forward, there's no way in hell the sprocket cover will fit on mine, and i reckon there's already too much weight on the front. so god knows what that one rides like. also, notice how close the rad is to the front wheel ? and how the titchy rear sprocket brings the chain runs a bit close to the swingarm ? only way round that is bigger sprockets front and rear. fortunately 520 front sprockets are readily available for the 6r lump, so you can run those, plus 520 chain and stock zxr400 sprockets at the back, and renthal go from 38-52 (?) rear and 14-17 (?) front.. for mine i think 16/42 is about right, but it depends on exactly where your drive sprocket ends up being located, and what state of tune the lumps in.
Brian from AMS put an 'F lump in an H a number of years back, and is still working on the 636'd L, he may be worth a call when you get nearer to starting.

Re: ZXR400/600
That looks liek the 636 engine to me, could use diffrent mounts?
So the H's mounts bolt onto the frame? Would make it a toad load easyer to mount that

Re: ZXR400/600
the engines are externally the same all the way through to the first 636's .. J model ? its just the FI, airboxes, and loom that will make a difference for this kinda thing.
and yeh, the H front mounts are a casting that bolts both to the engine, and to two lugs on the bottom of the frame spars, so in theory, you just replace the casting with a machined bracket that reaches back to the mounts on the 600 lump instead of forward and down to the 400. Also means the frame is stressed at the same point as intended (albeit in a different direction) which has to be a good thing.
cant promise there's room for airboxes/carbs and wotnot .. its been done, but how much nibbling was involved i dont know.

Re: ZXR400/600
minor progress,
stripped, cleaned, repainted and re-assembled the rear suspension linkages, + fitted new bushes/sleeves to the "dog-bones" as mine were fubar
then got a bit carried away doing some shopping,
woodcraft 50mm clipons
renthal race grips
42th renthal sprocket
quick release fuel coupling
some stainless fasteners
zx6r clocks (to nick the tacho out of)
just waiting on a rear shock and i can build up the whole chassis, start thinking about bodywork, sort out the loom and build/install the engine !

Re: ZXR400/600
well, the clocks arent quite what i was hoping for, but some careful prising n dremeling should get the 600 internals into the 400 clocks
trying to work out how to attach the rear light/numberplate/indicator gubbins without the rear half of the subframe.. anyone got any idea's ?

Re: ZXR400/600
some shiny bits have arrived ..
cnc'd titanium disc bolts ..
i got them for cosmetic reasons, (all mine look manky) but f*** me ! they aint half light, all 10 ti ones weigh less than two OE bolts ..
42th renthal sprocket to hopefully get the gearing somewhere near
woodcraft CNC'd clipons .. same angle as stock, but adjustable length, lighter (lots) and basically lovely.

couple of crappy pics showing the clipons zx6r switchgear and renthal race grips all fitted up,
