My On going project

Post by Northern ANdy »

Bought the bike in feb 07, the bike itself was in good but dirty condition, and bodywork had room for improvement. It had a full micron system with an open can and a datatool veto (fit and regret for sure). it had just had:

New Camshafts
New rockers
Shims
Generator re-wind
Carb rebuild
Piston rings
Cam chain
New battery

Unfortuanately the gearbox and clutch where worse for ware

By march 07 I had bought a replacement engine from a H model. This engine had just had :

Head gasket
Shims
Clutch rebuild
CCT
Cam chain

So far (23/03/07) I have polished half of the frame (down to the welds), and tonight I have bolted in the new engine.

I re did all the wiring on mine when i re-installed it, didnt have to do too much just cable tied alot of things together. Air box does foul the wires slightly but nothing major, ill get a pic up of it when i get the chance.

they are the £99 ACU approved jobbies from ebay. The quality isn't fantastic to be honest. They get delivered straight off the mill, full of swarf and machine oil. The milling quality is poor with some 'dinks' in the surface and some quite sharp areas. The bushes are crap and I doubt they will last as long as a bronze equivalant. Also the holes for the mouting bolts are recessed with diameter 10mm yet no M8 bolt with a 10mm head is easily available, so the standard M8 cap head looks silly in the hole.

The gear linkage rod is also in need of extra washers to space it out or the lever hits it on downshifts.

All in all not alot of work to put right, but for £100 it would be nice if they cleaned off the swarf.

By the way, I have a box of things ready for black powder coat, should I have the rearset done satin black, i think it would look nice, what you rekon?

ummmm, personally id leave em. I think they would look a bit odd if they were done black, if your frame was black then id say go for it.
