My first 'big' bike by dangerfield

Post by dangerfield »

So just hours after passing my test on thursday i decided i didn't fancy waiting too long so later on in the day i bought my ZXR 400 L9 over the phone, blind from a shop in Leeds where it had been part ex'ed. I felt quite proud of myself but then began getting a bit twitchy about the condition and potential problems i might face (have quite a poor track record of buying cars which have gone pop soon after purchase).

Anyway, friday tea time it arrived. It arrived just as i was eating my fajitas which i had lovingly cooked due to being starving and a bit nervous. The remaining fajita went in the microwave and for the record, was not as tasty after being reheated.

So it was rolled out of the van and imagine my shock when it was better than i had hoped, in one piece and started and ran. Bloody hell. Into the basement it went and paperwork exchanged etc.. and then a massive grin appeared on my face.

Due to a non-bikey bf visiting i left it until sunday lunch time before checking tyre pressures and eventually venturing out. My immediate thoughts were 'this is going to take some getting used to' but i quickly felt ok and went to put some fuel in it. Wish it had a fuel gauge.

Rode around some familiar roads and stopped to take a picture or two but abandoned that idea since i preferred riding it to tip-toeing around it with a poor camera phone. The clouds were rolling in so i made my way back and got piss wet through but still grining like a cheshire cat.

A couple of pics:

Does anyone know why the chain has gone white in the rain? Is it normal?

Re: My first 'big' bike by dangerfield: questions

Post by dangerfield »

Really enjoying my new plaything although i have a couple of questions:

1. How long should i be nursing it before the grin can kick in? (i keep my car below 3k until it is up to 80-90 degrees)

2. Is it normal for the revs to increase when i'm on full lock trying to reverse out of my space? (hand nowhere near the throttle)

3. My face aches because of all the grinning i'm doing, what is the best remedy for this?

1. give it 5-10 minutes or running to warm up, after that, go nuts!

2. could be that your throttle cable is getting pinched somewhere, as you turn the handlebars it is pulling the cable slightly?

3. riding more :D

I'm quite sure your throttle cables are being pulled at full lock causing the revs to jump.
