Bike won't rev past 9 half rpm
Hi folks
I have my little zxr400 few years now so about a year ago I stripped it down and treat it to a new paint and clean the bike up but now when I drive it the bike won't rev past 9half rpm, now the rev limiter is gone so just wondering could there be any thing els that could be causing this...
Cheers

Re: Bike won't rev past 9 half rpm
UK bike wont have a speed limiter behind clock.
Rev limiter is internal to the CDI and a safety feature.
Check all connections are solid otherwise you have a dodgy CDI

Re: Bike won't rev past 9 half rpm
If you disconnect the speed limiter then the bike wont rev higher than 9-10000rpm.
Check for the 3pin connection behind your speedo.
if you have the connector then you're missing the speed limiter circuit!

Is there any wires I should look at to disconnect on the cdiMori Man wrote:UK bike wont have a speed limiter behind clock.

The bike did rev past 9 thousand it red line if you want it to I will have to cut all connection again on the bike

Question fella's?
I have removed my speedo completely inc all wiring. This seems to be a prob I have. What do I need to do as my bike has a race harness? mines a 89 H2 model.

Your CDI is still waiting for a pulse from the pink wire that went to the clocks - cutting this out has made the CDI revert back to a fail safe mode that only allows the bike to do 180KMHtechnicalmoto wrote:Question fella's?

This is achieved in top gear at around those rev's so all gears are restricted to this. Search for "speed restriction " threads but until you do a "hack" your stuck.
MM!
PS. Please don't ask me what to do as I just plugged a limiter off box into my clocks, if removing the clocks I would just leave this unit in place so I know nothing about the hacks !

That all seems very feasible but there is no pink wire on the cdi?

Top Tip: Post up a pic of your CDI and connections to it - then we can take it from there.technicalmoto wrote:That all seems very feasible but there is no pink wire on the cdi?
For now, your CDI is in failsafe mode, no doubts about it. Check the wiring diagram on the front of this website , it maybe the pink wire changes colour by the time it reaches the CDI - the workshop manual is there for a reason !

Yeah will do. I teach motorcycle engineering so am well aware of the purpose of workshop manuals.

Re: Bike won't rev past 9 half rpm
I have studied the wiring diagram for the H model. No pink wire on it at all.
Plot thickens as in my butchered loom offcuts is a 9 way connector with a pink wire attached. Only 9 ways I can see are on dash lights and LH handlebar. But no pink wire is shown on those.
Was the pink wire on H models? It looks like it was going by the threads on here.
This forum is great so I'm hoping someone can shed light on it. I would also have thought the race manual would have mentioned this somewhere.
Would like to sort this bit before total strip down so if anyone can assist I would be grateful.

AAAHHHAAA!
I have found a three way connector. b/y, br and PINK!
Just to find the circuit for this now.
