race bitsa

Post by zimm »

So,

picked up 70 % of an H1 racebike from will224 on sunday (who has the best kitchen/workshop arrangement ive yet come across!)..

pretty much everything except engine, exhaust, brake lines..

and i've got this old ZX-4 frame i got off ebay for 99p, and a ZX-4 engine... and a spare Beet Ti.. and ...

so im thinking something along the lines of..

but more "mixed up"

ZX4 frame
ZX4 engine
H tank (maybe ZX4 if i can find one)
H1 frontend
H1 back end
H1 style fairing
H or L style single seat
H2 radiator
F3 intake (air tray/bellmouths)
F3 ignition
Beet Ti exhaust
gsxr shock

Sounds good!

Looking forward to seeing it!

What frame is that on the first pic? Looks like L model?

I'm looking for bits as an excuse to come see your workshop. Nice to meet you.

knocked the bearings out and dropped the wheels off to be powdercoated yesterday..

one pair in gloss black, one pair kwak green.

hoping to drop the frame off to be modified on monday (swingarm pivot and torque arm mount) and discuss some ally fairing/clock mounts with the same people.

havent decided what to do about the swingarm.. the one i have has been "lightly modified" with an angle grinder to clear the gsxr shock.. might find a replacement or get it welded up or something.. and fit a standard size shock.. dunno really.

collected the frame from the tig fairy this afternoon, carried out a rushed part build to check everything looked straightish then stripped it all down again and dropped it off to be dipped in acid at a mates place ..

thinking brushed ally finish sealed with 2 pack lacquer .. like wot modern bikes are ..

wheels look lovely :)

discs, rearsets, brakes and exhaust all sorted, just need a clean .. the swingarm is temporary just to get the shim made up and finalise the location of the torque arm mounting, (have a replacement swingarm on the way) found a good L shock and NWS linkage in a box, so thats going in for the time being.. will need another lug added to the frame for the clock bracket as the ZX4 only has one wimpy lug ..

not sure about the L seat, dont like the look, but it almost fits, ive got 2 of them, and the actual seat pad fits the subframe better than an H one .. its probably staying ..

seems to be coming together nicely mate, the tank and rear seat unit look like they should be on that frame.

yeh, its coming on ..

read through the "forgotten era" class reg's the other night, and USD forks arent allowed unless originally fitted .. which is an butt ..

I have some ZX4 forks, (RWU) and a front wheel, but its narrrower (3 inch, takes a 110/70/17) and the brakes are shite 2 pot sliding caliper things ..

will have to get measuring and if a ZXR wheel can be made to fit then i'll try and sort some decent caliper mounts/adapters ...

or maybe a frontend off a Honda NC30 can be made to fit... enough folks convert them to zxr forks that the reverse ought to be possible ?

why not look at ZXR750H1 forks? right way up forks, good brakes, decent width rim, etc...
ameteurs practice and train unitl they can do it, professionals practice and train until they cannot fail at it..
