vin/chassis number
hi guys, where can one find this on an l4 model. need it so i can apply for the logbook for my bike.

mine dont have a few other bits either. some bolts, indicators, road legal can, rear seat, subframe, petrol,thermostat. but it does have an air freshner.
anything is possible with enough time and money. and an open mind...

have a look on the right hand side of the frame beam as it comes away from the headstock, sometimes they put a vin plate there.

theres no vin plate or any holes where it was held on the headstock theres ; zx400l- then nothing! hasnt been stamped over, ground off or welded over. probably a friday afternoon bike... never had a problen with mot's though. apart from the race can!

hmmm how strange, mines an L4 and its stamped on the righthand spar of the frame where it heads towards the headstock....
do your mot's have a vin on them?

i was wondering how they do the MOT then if you have no VIN number, it should be on the headstock, unless the bike has been rebuilt into another frame but then if it had no vin number it would be on a Q plate wouldn't it?

i give them the old mots normally. if not they can get it from the number plate. apparently its not a legal requirement to have it on the bike and ive taken it to a few places now. that said the frame has been polished at some point so i suppose they could have welded over the holes where the plate was fixed. ill put a pic of the headstock on here soon. thats the only bit of the bike i didnt check. young and stupid and trusted the bike shop.

mine looks to be stamped into the headstock, only had a qucik glance but its there im sure.

to clear this up, number can also be found on old mot certificates at least its on the 7/8 i have for mine. mine is also on the headstock too.
