There seems to be more and more members appearing that are racing the ZXR400 so i've created a special section just for you to show off results, discuss meets etc etc.

Engine gaskets

Post by U_h0rnet5 »

Hey guys,

Was wondering if I could get away with some gasket sealant for the clutch, ignition and flywheel cover gaskets or should I just get some gaskets from Cradleys??

If I was track side and stuck for one then yes use a sealant.........................

However normally I'd use a proper gasket.........................

Top tip that works for me

When I use a new gasket I put a smear of grease on one side.......................9 times out of ten when I next take that cover off the gasket remains stuck to the side that did NOT have grease and is undamaged and very much reusable....................

Cradley normally have a full stock of gaskets and if you order today it will arrive tomorrow

Always use the proper gaskets. In an emergency, you can get away with sealant for the covers, but a gasket is also there to provide a bit of "give" and allows the engine and casings to have a bit of movement. Engines are designed in this way.
It's not like gaskets are particularly expensive. Well, okay the head and base are a bit pricey..!

also, without a clutch cover gasket, the arm moves to far forward and your clutch cable may be to long
