More power?

There seems to be more and more members appearing that are racing the ZXR400 so i've created a special section just for you to show off results, discuss meets etc etc.

More power?

Post by TyeNoodle »

Ok, I seem to have dug myself a hole here..

Told the guy I spanner for, that he'd do well getting a cheap 400 so he'd get more tracktime at race meetings, and hopefully learn a bit faster.

All going well, too well. Only it's 2nd race meeting and he gets his first trophy, Derby Phoenix last weekend at Anglesey.

Happy as a pig in the proverbial....

Now he's thinking of getting rid of the R6, and concentrating on the 400. Maybe getting a wet bike, and spending the rest on the dry bike.

So, how does I go about getting more power?

Engine reputedly has 72hp, with nothing to prove this. But it does go very well.

Has:
Ram air
Beet exhaust
SP or like cams
Ported motor
No flywheel
balanced crank, lightened or whatever they do. It won't run below 3k anyway..
15,700 rev limit.

What else can we do, presuming it is making 72hp? What's the top guys running?

Cheers!

Nothing more for me.....my ZXR is virtually same spec/power, although no lightened/balanced crank. Plenty enough to win races and compete at F400 in any club, you just need to get it set up and ride it harder winks

P.S. I was there last weekend as well. He did very well in the wet conditions and looked very smooth and fast.....just needs to work on his pace in the dry now and he'll be right up there

Agreed. I'm running with 71bhp and it's a competitive bike. Spend the money on suspension and brakes unless you want to start spending serious cash on the engine. The more power we strangle out of these old machines the less they last. low to mid 70's seems to keep them reliable. Check the air/fuel on the dyno, re-jet as appropriate and have fun.
