Re: red downpipes
I'd suspect that it could be running a little on the lean side.......................you need some dyno time IMHO

Re: red downpipes
you would imagine flames would have to be coming out of the engine in order to redden the down pipes, you should get your carbs ballanced and see if that helps,im no expert as you may already know!

Re: red downpipes
there is no flames at all its just general heat in the pipes,
balancing the carbs would that really make that much difference, the carbs were fine on it before??

before ? ? ?
before what exactly ?
Could this be yet another case of somebody asking a question without giving us the full story ?
Still think its running lean

Re: red downpipes
Beet Ti ? or stainless ? or a thin wall copy ?
you running it up at a standstill or on a dyno ? if either then i'd expect them to start glowing after a bit ..

Re: red downpipes
thinwall stainless being blasted by continuous gas temperatures of circa 600 degree's centigrade with no cooling airflow ....
and you're surprised they go red ? heard of a blowtorch ?
sounds fine .. my scorpion system goes red if you leave the bike running up long enough to check the fan cuts in.. the Ti ones go blue .. completely different story when the bikes moving. temp differences between running ok and running a bit lean are minimal from the exhaust's perspective.

Re: red downpipes
yeah fair point but why suddenly has it started happening,i have had the bike for 2 seasons now and never has it happend either in the garage or at a race meeting,i understand how hot a engine gets,but-come on either at a standstill or running they should not get that hotzimm wrote:thinwall stainless being blasted by continuous gas temperatures of circa 600 degree's centigrade with no cooling airflow ....

copied from t'internet ...
http://racingarticles.com/article_racing-56.html
"Glowing headers mean the engine is lean – This wives’ tale is starting to lose steam, but still believed more often than not. Headers glow red for only one reason, there’s fuel burning inside. The two main reasons are a rich mixture and late ignition timing - which doesn’t give the fuel enough time to burn inside the combustion chamber. Test it for yourself, let your engine idle and crank the ignition timing back to the point where it barely runs, then get out the marshmallows"
HTH
by the same logic, cam timing would also have an effect..
what ignition are you using ? what state of tune are the engines ?
whats been changed if anything since they were in a state where this didnt happen ?
