I have an Ohlins rear and std (I think) forks and the handling is superb....need to get a steering damper too.
You will certainly need an aftermarket shock maxton, white power,ohlins etc
Not so sure about the stock power, we're talking at the rear wheel...so don't think stock is 62 by far
sub 64, what do you recommend?

Hmm never realised that, it certainly isn't 62bhp at the minute but engines far from healthy, once rebuilt and micron pipes on that should easily see close enough to 64bhp. Had varied replies on whats needed fir 64bhp then Will get it on dyno once engines refreshed then go from there once I have suspension sorted. Front forks definitely need attention, seals are dead and can't see the internals being in great condition after 20 years abuse and stock rear shock has virtually no adjustment. Damper on a 400? Really? Thought they'd be pretty planted. the had to fit one on my R1 but that was to be expected, had an nc35 for a while and that was fine although never got it on track.

If you look at the Kawasaki Manual for the L model the power is quoted as 65ps at 13000rpm. That will be at the crank. Assuming an efficient transmission in good order you're not going to lose more than a couple of ponies or so getting to the rear wheel. The H model is 62ps at 12500. I assume we're talking about racing L models here?wes wrote:

Stock at the rear wheel for an L in good order has got to be around 62-63 as the bike I've posted the link to the dyno run is mine, I've owned it from new, and I can assure you it is exactly as it left the factory, with the exception of the A16 road legal can. Dyno run done at Dynobike in Malton, who knows his stuff. Now if that can's giving several extra hp you lads ought to be queuing up to buy them

You definitely want a steering damper on it, these bikes can get quite skittish at the front end. I've got one on my road bike and it makes it much better - I wouldn't go on a racetrack without one

Thanks, I'll take your (and wes's) advice on that one rather than risk it without.
