When i try to start my bike it makes a funny humming sound and the rpm counter shoots up but the starter doesn't even seem to be turning?? hence the bike does not start!!! what the heck is going on???

Try sticking a stick down onto the starter and whack it to see if its sticking

So my answer is a sticky or knackered starter motor

No that didn't sort it! also i have just noticed that since i have tried starting my bike and it made that funny noise that it has starter to leak oil too! it's nice clean oil so i don't think it's from the engine but i'mm struggling to see where it is coming from. do you think the two could be linked??? any advice would be greatly appreciated
