rebuilt bike ignition issues

Post by charlestonchoo1 »

I have recently put my old 91 zxr back together after a long time in bits and have come across a problem with the ignition wiring (I hope).

When I have the clutch in and press the start button, the fuel pump ticks away but no starter motor movement.
However, when I push the clutch lever out and press the start button the starter motor turns and the fuel pump starts and the bike runs.
the issue now is that the starter motor keeps running and only shuts off temporarily when the clutch lever is depressed but starts as soon as the clutch lever is released.

I have been thinking that it has to be a problem with a relay somewhere but just cannot get my head around the wiring diagram for ignition.

Has anyone else had this problem?
Also what position does your clutch lever need to be in order to start the bike?

P.S.
I have installed a new matching loom and junction box on this bike, but was worried that maybe these are not compatible with my remaining plugs.
