Really need some help please.

Post by Darkstar »

ok couple of things going on...
1) the bike will not stay on, I turned it on and after about 10 seconds it died, tryed again same thing.
now after trying a couple of times it only manages half a second before cutting out.
2)My oil pressure warning light is not on when the key is in the "on" position.
3)I have a tiny leak from the gear change oil seal.

so...anyone have an ideas why it keeps cutting out?
fuel is on, and I drained the carb bowls and there is petrol in there.
Plugs are clean, Ive tryed with neutral and first gear with clutch in.
choke doesnt help. Im lost. :smt010

also the oil pressure switch, how can I check it?

and lastly does anyone know how to replace the seal on the gear change shaft? hopefully without taking the engine apart..

Thank you for any help.

Try to establish what may have caused the problem:

It was running fine and next day this happened?

It was stored for months but was running fine before?

It's never been serviced?

Have you removed or tinkered with the carbs ?

Oodles of reasons so the more info you give the easier a solution becomes.

Look in the workshop manual for the test on the oil pressure switch.

Gear change seal is external so with bike leaned over oposite side you could dig it out with a fine drift or the like - do not go at it like a bull in a china shop or you will crack the housing !! There are now cans of spray which you can use as a quich fix - they temp' repair the seal and stop leaks just dont know for how long.

The bike has just had a headgasket replaced.
The bike was tested once it was rebuilt and seemed to run perfect, started off the button no problem.
idled and reved fine too.
the only thing wrong was that the oil light was not on ( but this was a fault from before the HG) and the small leak.

next day the problem started.

Ive tryed it again today and it just doesnt want to start at all, Ive checked the sparkplugs and they have a good spark on the frame. (Plugs are new)
Ive taken the loom off and im gonna check the resistance on the wires.

any other ideas?

Really appreciate any help anyone can give as Ive taken a week off work to ride it (for the first time) in a weeks time.
Thankyou!!

"EDIT" I just checked my Ic igniter and im not getting a resistance reading on any of the terminals apart from B-D!! fooked?
